Sunday Review Gameweek 13

Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United

Tot v UtdSuper Sunday started off with a mouth watering clash as both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were looking to bounce back from disappointing results last weekend. A win was needed by both sides and they gave it a good go. It was Spurs who opened the scoring in the 18th minute as Kyle Walker cleverly blasted the ball under the jumping United wall from a free-kick after Paulinho had been fouled by Jonny Evans. It was then the turn of United’s man in form, Wayne Rooney, who poked home the equaliser in the 32nd minute after Walker made a complete mess of Phil Jones’ clearance and allowed the ball to drop at the feet of the striker. The teams went in level at the break and the match was poised for a tight second-half affair. No one would have expected Spurs second goal scorer but a moment of pure brilliance saw Sandro smash the ball into the top right corner of the United net and send the White Hart Lane faithful into raptures. Moussa Dembele  was credited with the assist but it required a mazy run from Sandro to produce some space for the shot. The lead, however, was short lived as Danny Welbeck was brought down in the area by Hugo Lloris and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Rooney again to get his second of the game and keep up his brilliant run of performances. That was how the scores remained, neither side happy with the result but a pulsating affair which could have gone either way.

Bonus Points: Rooney (3); Walker (2) Sandro (2) Dembele (2)

Hull City 3-1 Liverpool

Hull v LivWith the news that Daniel Sturridge is out for between 6-8 weeks, the mood in the Liverpool camp was a bit sombre prior to kick off, and their day did not improve from there. An absolute shambles of a performance saw them slump to their second away defeat. Credit must be given to Hull however as the tactics of Steve Bruce were spot on. Jake Livermore opened the scoring with an ambitious effort that looped in over Simon Mignolet in the 20th minute, with David Meyler being credited with the assist. Liverpool then bounced back seven minutes later with a well worked free kick that saw Steven Gerrard curve the ball into the bottom of the Hull net. With 18mins to go, The KC Stadium went into overdrive as Meyler turned into goal scorer to notch his first goal for the Tigers. Insult was then added to injury in the 87th minute as a Tom Huddlestone shot which was clearly going wide was turned into the net by Martin Skrtel and confirmed the three points for Hull. Those fantasy managers that captained Luis Suarez would not have been happy.

Bonus Points: Meyler (3); Gerrard (2); Livermore (1)

Chelsea 3-1 Southampton

Che v SouWhat a crazy start to this one as Southampton opened the scoring after just 13 seconds of play. It was Jay Rodriguez who latched onto a loose pass from Michael Essien to slot home past Petr Cech. A forced change then saw the injured Oscar replaced by Frank Lampard just before the half time break. Second half and it was up to two Chelsea defenders to get them on top of this game. On 55mins, Chelsea equalised through a close range headed finish by Gary Cahill after a scramble in the box, which saw Demba Ba hit the post and the rebound put in by the defender. In the scramble, Saint’s keeper Artur Boruc suffered a dislocated finger and had to be withdrawn, being replaced by Paolo Gazzaniga. Seven minutes later, a Juan Mata cross was headed home by John Terry to put the Blues into the lead, which they didn’t surrender. The game and three points were then sealed in the last minute as Demba Ba scored his first goal of the season after striking home Ramires’ ball into the box. The result takes Mourinho’s men into second place, four points behind Arsenal, though many fantasy managers will be more concerned about the injuries to Oscar and Boruc.

Bonus Points: Terry (3); Ba (3); Mata (1); Rodriguez (1)

Manchester City 3-0 Swansea

City v SwaAlvero Negredo got things up and running in the 8th minute as he converted a free kick to give City the lead. That was how the score remained going into the break, although Jonathan De Guzman had a fantastic opportunity to level things up. From then onwards it was plain sailing for City and they got their second and third through Samir Nasri, rewarding fantasy managers who held onto him. The first coming from an assist from Yaya Toure and then the second to wrap up the game was provided by Pablo Zabaleta in the 77th minute. For once fantasy managers were left utterly disappointed as Sergio Aguero’s only telling contribution to fantasy managers was to pick up a yellow card.

Bonus Points: Nasri (3) ; Zabaleta (2); Yaya Toure (1)

Hi chaps, Is it worth downgrading Terry to Demel/Vlaar in order to upgrade Januzaj to Cabaye? Have 2FTs, and can’t really see another way of doing it.. My team’s linked so please let me know what you reckon as Jan’s dropping tonight and won’t be able to afford the move soon. Cheers!

Calvin do you see Cabaye outscoring Terry over the next couple of weeks? Not sure I do. From your overall rank you can gain ground quickly. 1 extra point a week means about 12000 spots in the overall. So save your transfers until press conferences and be patient. Don’t worry about that.1 is not worth a mistake with your transfers.
about 12000 per extra point from your ranking.
from 500000 and 400000 is about 10400 spots per extra point
from 300000 is about 8200 spots
from 200000 is about 5500 Spots

So be patient because every extra point you get out of your team is worth a crap load.

Mito, can i ask for your advice on my team?

i have a few concerns. boruc is injured and apparently gizzagaga (not sure how to spell) is the one replaces him not kelvin davis. and oscar is out injured. i have 1FT and 0.3M in the bank.

        boruc, kelvin davis
        mert, coleman, dawson, baker, chester
        ravel, ozil, oscar, gerrard, brady
        lukaku, aguero, suarez

        • Cookie is in the same situation and he is going Gazz. The one good thing about getting him is that with him and Davis you know you have the starting keeper, I least until mid January. The bad thing is their schedule is not the greatest but is bearable. I love to tell you to get pantilimon, but with no back up keeper it would be a risk, considering Hart could get a start next game. Guzan could also be an option, they have United in GW 16 but other than that, their schedule is not too bad.
So Gazza to save a bit of money and get the starter for a decent team.
Guzan for an average team, but 3 clean sheets in their last 4.
Pants for a great team, but a bit of risk on his starter status, though he has done a good job.

You could always count cookies? One cookie, two cookie…ninety-nine cookies…

        • iqbal says:

Cheers Mito, appreciate the advice. I am considering to bring gazza in hence would not get too worry of not having a starting keeper. Mignolet&Guzan are in my list too, but then it would not allow me to have more money in the bank to upgrade my defence. I agree on Pants, would never know of Hart starting again at the post.

And, should i get someone in to replace Oscar? Ramsey maybe? Or am i too late of getting him?

    Veer says:

Morning guys! Help me out with my team this week. I have 2 FT (so I have to use one or it gets wasted) and 0.3 in the bank. I think my priority should be selling Baker, who’s lost his place? My team is:
    Mignolet Vorm
    Coleman Zabaleta Lovren Dawson Baker
    R.Morrison Oscar Ozil Ramsey Brady
    Aguero Suarez Lukaku
    Thanks :bounce:

Priority there is Oscar mate. Cabaye maybe ?

      Veer says:

Why is Oscar a priority? Has he lost his place? I don’t follow Chelsea so i don’t know anything about this…

      • flingy says:

        Morning Veer,
Taken from the article above: “A forced change then saw the injured Oscar replaced by Frank Lampard just before the half time break.”
I’m sure, however, that somebody mentioned he’s fine to play and I don’t think he’s flagged on FPL. Maybe some news will come of that later on today. Your team is similar to mine, however Walcott could be a swap for Ozil and you can use the cash to upgrade Brady/Morrison (whoever your non-favoured cheap mid is).

      • Ripsaw says:

Veer he pulled up with what looked like a minor ankle sprain around half time and was replaced as Flingy points out. I dont feel its too serious but I am convinced Jose will be rotating in the next few games following his comments about “its time to use the full squad” from the weekend press conf, and I feel Oscar is highly likely to be rotated, esp carrying a ankle knock.

        • Veer says:

How long is Oscar going to be rotated for? I might be able to save the transfer and keep him for some time until he’s back…

      • Veer says:

Should i downgrade Oscar and upgrade Baker? And who should i switch them for?

    KungFuKingCantona says:

People continue to transfer Rooney in. Is it wise since he is already on 4 yellows? Can wazza keep calm and go through the xmas period under the referee’s radar? Really considering straight swapping him for Remy now. Is it worth it?
And on a side note…Ramsey has 60% ownership and rising, has anybody been owned by so many managers ever?

    • 21.1
      Veer says:

van persie in the last two seasons?

      • KungFuKingCantona says:

I can’t remember RVP being owned by so many….but you may probably be right! I have only been on FPL for a year so probably the likes of Ronaldo back then had 99% ownership 😛

    SwissChocks says:

The Lord moves in mysterious ways. Artur Boruc “The Holy Goalie” (from his Celtic days) gets injured. I replace him with Gazza and can afford Rooney! Prayers now extend to Rooney not collecting his fifth yellow in the next game.

    James101 says:

    Hey Cookie

Are you going with Gazzan / Davis combo?

I posted I was considering it last night.

Pile the cash into a better defender or some such thing…

      James
Iv gone Boruc to Myhill but I wanted West Brom long term anyway (will swap to Foster when necessary).
What you are taking about isn’t the worst idea. Should get you to the January WC when you can rethink and reshape.

      • James101 says:

        Yep. Exactly my thoughts mate.

And I’ve been building value towards jan WC.

Though to be honest I don’t see me changing a lot…

        • James
I feel quite satisfied with my team just now too. What do you think?
          Myhill Harper
Coleman Terry Vlaar B Turner Chester
          Lallana Ozil Barkley Oscar Bray
          Rooney Aguero Suarez
Looking to have Ramsey in for Oscar or Ozil before tomorrow to free money to improve Harper and Turner (Guzan and Shaw)

        • James101 says:

          Not too shabby mate.

Yes. Ramsey needs to be there. For Oscar makes sense given he took a knock?

Or are we convinced he’s okay?

Ozil is awesome. But expensive for reliable returns.

        • James
I think Oscar is ok but maybe like to hold Ozil for next two. Might bring Oscar back for Ozil of I feel the need.

    Hi All,

So no the worst week for me, got 62 points smile
I have 1.2M in the bank (for Nasri to Silva when he is back) and 1FT team is:
    Mig
    Dawson, Clyne, Vlaar
    Nasri, Hazard, Ramsey, Ravel
    Suarez C, Aguero, Rooney
Subs: Daniels, Brady, A Williams, Chester

Any ideas or thoughts of formation changes I should do? Or anyone I should sell/get in?

    Thanks smile

Looks ok. I’m not sure of spurs defensively at the minute (two difficult games recently I know). How about Dawson to Evans at Man Utd for the Christmas period?

I wouldn’t suggest something I wouldn’t consider myself and Evans is on my radar just now.

      • Shep says:

the problem is that with United defense (except Evra) they change it up too much.
Need a constant starter, and Spurs (before the Manchesters) had only conceded 6 goals. So I am fine with Dawson
