Trends and Useful Useless Stats

Welcome to the first and probably last edition of trends, useful and useless stats. If there is a public outcry I could be talked into another edition, but considering the fickle crowd us writers deal with, write it yourself! Anyway onto business, looking to fill in the gaps during this International break, we have decided to put a little something together to hopefully entertain you, besides the already scheduled monkey pictures that are undoubtedly bound to end up on the chat. So let’s look for some trends and stats to fill up your brain with enough info to win in any game of ‘FPL GW1-11 trivia’. Also let me state that if you have any questions please ask on the boards, I will do my best to answer it or at least force Flingy to do so.

First let us throw some tables together and let you look at some of the leaders in several categories.

There are also 6 players tied at 7, with 5 points or more, including 3 more Saints players and the deadly duo of Cesc & Costa and of the course the Dirty Sanchez. It’s no surprise that this category is littered with Saints players. They certainly have had some great performances this year and are offering options in every position.[clear]

[clear]This is a personal favourite of mine because it shows consistency. In particular when you take into account that I have eliminated anyone who does not average 60 minutes per game or has played in at least half the team’s minutes for the season. I find this better than the points per game that the FPL site has. That FPL site stat in particular punishes Aguero for only playing 8 & 23 minutes in the first two games.[clear]

[clear]There are a whole host of players that are at 2 including the likes of Aguero, Costa and Pelle. So basically a lot of the usual suspects, mixed in with some unusual suspects like Jagielka and Dier. Is no huge surprise that mids and defenders do well. A goal from either only puts them a 3 bonus away from the magical 10 mark on most occasions. Whereas a forward needs more than one goal to reach double digits even if they get the full bonus.[clear]

[clear]Just the teams you expected to make up this list, right? Right? Don’t look away in shame, we all went for at least one of the Arsenal, Liverpool, United or Chelsea defenders. If I remember correctly it was about this time last season that Chelsea staring blanking teams on a weekly basis. It was also about this time that Liverpool started scoring on themselves. Obviously there is some value in cheap defenders, but one would expect this table to change over the coming weeks.[clear]

[clear]

Just the teams you expected to make up this list, right? Right? Yeah, you got one of out of two correct. Be proud, is always good to get something right even if the worst of managers could. Although some of you invested in Ulloa, so…. not the brightest managers in the world there. In a completely related note, Leicester has not scored in their last 4 and are fighting hard to catch Villa who are in fine form by failing to score in 6 of their last 7.[clear]

After some table fun or better yet colours other than yellow, let us make some statements that may or may not surprise you.

[clear]Baines has scored 7 or more points in 6 of his last 8 games.

Coleman has 6 or more points in 5 of his last 7.

Southampton has kept 4 clean sheets in a row and has only allowed 1 goal at home on the season.

Chelsea is the only team that has scored in every fixture.

Newcastle have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4. They play QPR next who have only scored 2 away all season and are the only team to have not accrued a single point on their travels. (Hint of the GW)

Along with QPR, Manchester United and Burnley have not won away this season. Hey United!! Even Leicester,
Sunderland, Palace and Villa managed it. FFS!!

QPR is the only team to have been beaten by 4 goals or more on more than one occasion. Saints are the only team to beat more than one team by 4 goals or more twice, three times if you count Sunderland twice.

Pantillimon is tall.

Charlie Austin has scored 5 or more in 5 of his last 6 games.

Chadli has scored 64 points this season, which makes him 5th overall in points in FPL. Those 64 are also 6 points more than he scored all of last season.

Bojan scored in game-week 11 finally proving those that stuck with him right. Patience is a virtue….

Ayoze Perez (4.8 price) has scored in 3 straight games after 3 total shots. What effectiveness, sounds just like Welbeck. 😉

Chambers leads the EPL with 6 yellows and number of times being undressed by one player (Montero) in a game. Put your kit back on son!

Sakho averages more shots inside the six yard box than anyone who has played in at least half (445) the team’s minutes.

Aguero is on pace for 41 goals, 272 FPL points and 0 assists.

Kun is first with 5.2 shots per game, followed by Pelle with 4.3 and Balotelli with 3.9, this is also only with players who have played in at least half the team’s minutes.
Wait, what?! Balo has 3.9 SPG… LMAO

West Ham have been involved in the most games with at least 2.5 goals per game. Only them and Stoke have kept 2 clean sheets or less from the teams in the top 10.

Siggy has not scored more than 2 points when playing away since his visit to Old Trafford in GW1. Out of his 63 points, 41 have come at home.

Angel Di Maria averages more shots outside the 18 yard box per game than anyone who has played in half of their team’s minutes, Balotelli is second. On a related note, a keeper was seen yawning as they saw Balo lining up an attempt.

QPR has allowed the most goals this season with 22, followed by Palace with 20 and mighty Sunderland with 19.

Last 3 games top fantasy players with an average of 13.5 are led by Sanchez, with Aguero at 10.5 and Baines at 10.0

4 of the top 10 most expensive players are from Manchester United. Only one (Di Maria) has delivered anything that merits his price. Before the season – “Best forward line in the EPL”, 11 games in – “at least
Fellaini is playing well”

Berahino has scored 6 of his 7 goals at home and 42 of his 56 FPL points have come at the Hawthorns.

Pelle also shows off with the home crowd. He has 5 goals and 3 assists at St. Mary’s stadium and only 1 goal, 1 assist when playing away.

Pelle has risen the most since the game started, with a 1.0m jump in value.

Tadic is a similar case with only 1 assist away from home and a total of only 14 points of his 57 on his travels.

Tadic leads all players in key passes (a pass that leads to a shot attempt) with 3.2, closely followed by Di Maria and Downing with 3.1

West Ham and Everton have scored the most goals on set pieces with 6 a piece.

West Brom has scored the most penalty goals with 3 all by Berahino.

Chelsea average 2.85 goals against teams 10 or lower and have won every game.

Liverpool has already lost 5 games, that is one less than all of last season.

Tottenham has lost 4 of the 6 games played at home.

Thanks for reading through whatever this morphed into and I welcome any comments or tips (money preferably) on how to make it better. Remember though your request can’t be too difficult as I have a life. 😉

Thoughts on this early wild card team? yes, no, maybe?

That looks great. I’m a bit jealous, holding off on my WC myself. My only thought might be about holding on to Clyne. Their CS potential will drop over the next few weeks…..but if you got him cheap, I understand your motives.

Hi migs, I can’t comment on the team itself as I can’t actually see it on my phone! But, just my take on strategy if you are playing a WC now…. There are 9 GW’s between now and when the Jan WC can be used so you need to play a bit of a ‘mini-season’ here. Isolate those 9 weeks and study who has the best fixtures, paying particular attention to the defenders and their rotation. Just my take on it. I’ll have a look at the team itself later when I’m home.

Easiest fixtures among the big teams are probably.
        Chelsea & City
Middle of the pack type teams I would say
        Liverpool & Swansea
For the cheaper options with the best.
Villa, Leicester, QPR and if you are looking for the rotating partners to these weaker teams it is
        Villa & West Brom
        Leicester & Saints
QPR & Chelsea ( but you would never rotate a CFC defender with a QPR guy, so ignore)
Depending on who you get, a 3 man rotation of cheap defenders could be a possibility assuming you can arrange one where you always have an easy fixture at home.

Init and Mito, these are brilliant responses thanks gents appreciate it! That was the plan in playing the wildcard now because of the time period between now and January, however I didn’t think about it like you said Init which makes perfect sense. And thinks for the summary Mito, will focus more on those teams

Yeah cookie I have. he is actually in there already as I got him before the price rise just in case and I agree with your Dummet option, more solid thanks mate. I am gonna have a bit of a reshuffle now and will let you have a look (if you would be so kind) later on in the week

        • migs says:

          Safe travels Cookie enjoy!

        • migs says:

Could do as well Cookie to take advantage of that Villa fixture. I am weighing up a couple of things with that, one being that I keep Austin due to price and play mane instead with the plan to transfer him out straight after that. Will assess and see thanks pal

    Albertini says:

Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of Spain’s upcoming matches against Belarus and Germany with a hamstring injury.

The Spanish Football Federation released the following statement:

‘The Chelsea midfielder has been ruled out for the games against Belarus and Germany following tests and an evaluation of his condition that was carried out this morning by the medical staff of the Spanish national team.

‘The MRI done this morning in the Sanitas Clinic in La Moraleja (Madrid) showed a clear improvement with respect to the one done by his club on Sunday.

‘Although the MRI discards a hamstring tear, the player continues to have discomfort and the medical team considers that his involvement in the next games would not be advisable for his complete recovery.’

Hey guys! I know it’s the international break but trying to think ahead for the next GW. I really want to get Aguero in my team but not at the expense of Costa. I’ve come up with the following but also attached my current team if anyone can suggest anything else. Thanks!

Hey everyone, sorry I haven’t had time to be on here much lately. I’ve got 2 jobs and exams coming up in 2-3 weeks, gotta study as much as I can. Anyways…

Hey guys 1 FT and 0.3 in the bank us there anything to do with this team thinking of playing Trippier instead of Siggy for the next game weekend what do you guys think??

    • 36.1

      Matt

As long as you don’t experience any injuries I would save the FT and go with the team you have shown here.

I appreciate Sigurdsson is a bit of a ‘home’ player but I would say the chances of both he and Trippier scoring 2 points are similar. At least though, Sigurdsson can score directly from a free kick and so that would definitely sway it for me. I’d go Sigurdsson mate.

I also think Aguero is fast becoming default captaincy material . . . .

      • MattX says:

Cheers Gallant I just thought Trippier would get a clean sheet because last week I left Trippier and Dummett on the bench and they got 15 points between them.
