FanTeam are giving Fantasy Premier League managers to win their share of £50,000 playing World Cup fantasy football this winter

Now that this season’s Fantasy Premier League season has come to a halt, you may be asking how are you going to keep yourself occupied throughout the World Cup break? Well, we have the answer…

Our official daily fantasy sports partner, FanTeam.com, are hosting a £50,000 World Cup fantasy football game to keep us all thoroughly entertained during the Premier League break.

A lot of us love a little sweep-stake with friends and colleagues on the big International tournaments, so why not spice it up and play World Cup fantasy football for a chance to win your share of £50,000.

Oh, and before we forget, it’s worth you knowing that this contest is a single-entry contest only! This means all Fanteam customers can only enter one team each – so be assured you won’t be playing against users with 100 teams each.

If you’re an avid Fantasy Premier League player, like we are, you’ll fancy your chances too because the rules and scoring are all very similar to what we’re use to, with only a few subtle differences to FPL – but we’ll touch on these later in the article.

GAME RULES

So how does it work? In this article, we will try to give you as much clear and informative information as possible – however, we’ll also include info-graphics which explain everything you need to know.

You build your squad of 11 players from the 32 countries that make up the 2022 World Cup competition. Then manage them to glory! That’s the hope anyway. Let’s have a look at the key rules:

As stated above, this is a single-entry contest and the buy-in is £5. This means, only one team per Fanteam customer is allowed.

To play in our £50,000 2022 World Cup Fantasy Football contest, you will need to create an 11-man team ahead of Gameweek 1 – using the £90m budget salary, which will then increase to £95m for Gameweek 5 (Quarter-finals).

Your 11-man team must consist of at least 1 goalkeeper, 3 defenders, 2 midfielders and 1 forward. You nominated captain will score double points, but should your captain not play, your Vice will score double.

All entrants have unlimited free transfers until the tournament starts in Gameweeek 1 at 16:00 GMT on Sunday the 20th of November.

The deadline for transfers and team changes is at the time of the first kick-off of the opening fixture of each gameweek.

A full breakdown of our Game Rules are provided below in both text and an infographic.

As you can see from the Game Rules infographic above, there will be no price changes during this tournament.

You have 2 free transfers to use in each of Gameweek’s 2, 3 and 4 – and 3 free transfers to use in each of Gameweek’s 6 (semi-final) and 7 (final). Additional transfers cost 4 points each, should you wish to make more changes to your teams.

Unused free transfers can be carried over each week until the Gameweek 4 deadline, however, any saved transfers will be lost if not used when the Wildcard is automatically activated for everyone in Gameweek 5. You can also carry over your unused free transfers from Gameweek 6, to Gameweek 7.

To be clear – extra time and penalty shootouts are not included in our scoring. Points can only be scored in during the 90-minutes of regulation and injury time.

As you’re only required to pick a team of 11 players, our Safety Net feature will be active for this tournament. This means if a player you picked is not in the starting 11 lineup, they’ll be automatically replaced by the next priced (descending) player from the same club and position.

Late Registration to this tournament is not available. Therefore, the deadline for all entries is 16:00 GMT on Sunday the 20th of November, 2022.

The buy-in for this tournament is £5 and the £50,000 prize pool is guaranteed. As this is a progressive prize pool, the prize money will continue to grow now the minimum number of entries to reach the guarantee has been exceeded.

The first place prize money had a minimum guarantee of £5,000 – which is 10% of the guaranteed prize pool. However, now the prize pool has exceeded £50,000, the 1st place prize will also grow, but still remain at 10% of the total prize pool.

If you have any queries regarding our Game Rules, please reach out to FanTeam on twitter @FanTeamOfficial and they’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

SCORING SYSTEM

Like with the Game Rules above, the scoring on Fanteam has slight differences to other fantasy football games you might play on other platforms, but the image below gives a clear guide to our 2022 World Cup Fantasy Football Tournament scoring system.

Please note, if you’re an existing Fanteam customer and have participated in their Premier League or Euro 2020 season games, then the Scoring Rules remain unchanged.

Please study the scoring chart below carefully when assessing which players to pick for your 2022 World Cup Fantasy Football teams.

As you can see from the above, like other fantasy football games, points are awarded for goal, assist and clean sheets – but points can also be lost for fouls, yellow/red cards and own goals.

Here are a few additional scoring attributes and key rules we want to draw your attention to:

Full Match Bonus: If an attacking player (Forward or Midfielder) stays on the pitch for the entire game (90 mins & including injury time) they will pick up an additional point.

Goalkeeper Save Points: Goalkeepers will earn 0.5 points for every save they make. Therefore, a goalkeeper on a team that allows the opposition a lot of low quality shots, can really rack up the points – even if they don’t keep a clean-sheet.

Impact Points: If the team wins the period a player is on the pitch, the player will be awarded 0.3 points. However, if they lose the period (example: subbed off whilst losing 1-0) they’re on the pitch, they will be deducted 0.3 points.

Shots on Target: Midfielders and Strikers will be awarded 0.4 points for each Shot on Target, whilst Defenders will earn 0.6. If your Goalkeeper somehow manages a Shot on Target then he will get 1 point. This scoring rule certainly gives fantasy bosses something to think about when selecting their attacking assets.

What counts as a shot on target?

A player is deemed to have a Shot on Target when making a clear attempt to score that:

would have gone into the goal had the attempt not been saved by the goalkeeper, or.
is stopped by a player who is the last-man with the goalkeeper having no chance of preventing the goal (last line of defence).
Shot on Target resulting in a direct goal will not be counted as SOT:

a SOT (shot on target) that results in a FA (fantasy assist) will give a SOT for the assisting player.
an attempt on goal that hits the post or crossbar is not deemed a Shot on Target. The frame of the goal is not considered a target.
