Putin must be delighted at the thought of Europe’s finest taking over Moscow on Sunday. But it is what it is and the stadium will be covered in red and blue as France take on Croatia in the World Cup Final. These two have only met once before in the World Cup, in 1998, when the French triumphed 2-1 in the semi-final on the way to winning the trophy for the first and, to date, only time.
Croatia have never beaten France in their only previous five meetings, losing three and drawing the last two.

The 3rd/4th place play off sees England meet Belgium – a match dominated by Premier League involvement, unless of course Belgium make mass changes, which they may well do. The two have met three times previously in World Cup competition – in 1954 when the teams drew 4-4 in what must have been a tremendous game, in 1990 when David Platt’s last gasp goal saw England progress to the quarter-finals and of course in the group stages earlier in the tournament when both sides played their reserves in a 1-0 Belgium victory.

We will see the line-ups pre-deadline for the 3rd/4th place off match so maybe it’s best to wait to see which players are selected before making any transfers. It’s also worth noting that in the previous four World Cup tournaments there has been 17 goals in the 3rd/4th place play off compared to just 8 goals in the last four finals.

We are again allowed five free transfers and can now select a maximum of eight players from any one team.

Let’s finish this with style. I can’t think of a better captain for today 🙂

I have Griezmann as cpt. Keeper, 2 defs & 1 mid v Mbep, I hope he scores Amigo

      DMC says:

It would be mine had I not placed it on Hazard yesterday.

      • That guy Mbappe is a magician. At only 19 he has already amazed the world. I guarantee that in less than a couple of years he will surpass Ronaldo and Messi.

        • secretzorro says:

He has the pace for sure mate.

        • DMC says:

You can’t guarentee that in two years because those two are what they are because they do what they do for consecutive years for at least 10 years now. So, it’s literally impossible to match them in two years. I’ll give you that Mbappe seems to have what is takes for us to say, in ten years time, that he’s reached their level.

        • You are right DMC but the way he plays it makes you feel that he has been at top level for the last 10 years. He always looks so relaxed and let’s hope stays that way because it’s not easy to be up there in the stardom at this age.

        • DMC says:

I agree with you – his calmness and maturity at this ages stands out in terms of the long run he has ahead. Neymar for examples seems to fail on that specific aspect. I remember we all hinting that he would be the next Ronaldo/Messi and that now seems unlikely so yeah young Mbappe showing signs of that strength makes a case for him to be.
What we haven’t yet seen though is how he handles the pressure once he’s the prime star of a team. For now he hasn’t had all the lights on him.

        • It’s just me DMC. In the old FFF site we used have a mini league called My Rules. I played for five years with Ivan’s Newbies. The habit is still here, can’t help scouting and spotting future stars 🙂

        • Elleffcee says:

Ivan, are you setting up a ‘my rules’ league ?

        • Elle,as far as I know Zorro is planning to do one. He created it five years ago.

        • Chipster says:

I hope My Rules league happens again this season. I have already registered my Noobs team on the FPL site and got a provisional draft! 😀

        • Chipster says:

We should also do a Ghost Ship league (or Ghost Chip in my case!). Set the team up and leave it unchanged the entire season. No manual changes whatsoever, just autosubs. No chips or wildcards. I did a team like this last season. You have to pick carefully at the start.

It’s good because there is no ongoing maintenance for it, so no excuse for people not to have a go! 😀

        • You will have a strong competition there Chips. We know 1/3 of the 6 million teams will be Ghost Ships. They are the ones who usually win when the Cup starts from GW 18 : smiling:

        • Chipster says:

          This is so true :big-lol:

Rosco, it’s still on! Looks like you have about 12 French defenders and Mbappe as Capo. I don’t have him so I’m on Pogba Capo. I’d say good luck but I wouldn’t mean it smile

    Chipster says:

Stick with captain Haz, or twist to Griez?
Trying to maintain second place in my work league (leader is uncatchable). I’m 38pts ahead of my nemesis in third. I have 6 to play, he has 8 to play and has captained Griez. Am I safe?
