Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 29
Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 29. Back so soon? Life as an FPL manager can be brutal! First world problems and all that, eh?! Three deadlines in the space of 9 days can take its toll mentally, especially when you have to try and factor in the upcoming blanks and doubles, and trying to do so by playing a bit of a guessing game at this stage.
Back at it we are though, and so are Spurs and Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime, as they now seemingly enter a battle for 3rd / 4th spot with each other and also Man Utd, not quite the battle Spurs were hoping for only a week ago. We then have a relative treat at 3pm on Saturday with no less than 5 games. Man City look to keep the pressure on Liverpool as they visit Bournemouth, Brighton will be hoping to pull further clear of the relegation zone and in turn further condemn Huddersfield to their own inevitable fate, Burnley and Palace will be hoping their’s turns into a typical mid-table clash but both still need a few points on the board to make that a reality, Ole will be looking to continue to look invincible as Saints visit Old Trafford with their own agenda and Wolves will look to kiss and make up with their FPL fans with a home game against Cardiff, whose own fans may be forgiven for thinking their own team has already kissed the PL goodbye. What’s the record for the longest sentence ever?!
West Ham and Newcastle is finally looking like a genuine mid-table clash on Saturday evening. Give it three more weeks and the flip-flops will be getting packed in abundance for both.
Watford and Leicester kick us off on Sunday and continue the mid-table theme at 12pm, before a mini derby as Fulham host Chelsea before a proper derby closes us out as Everton look to derail the Liverpool title charge. They won’t, but it should be fun watching them try!
The games in full…

The League Codes for FF247 for the 2018/19 season are as follows –
Who would you rather have over the next couple of weeks, Firmino or Robertson? Already have Salah and TAA.
Will likely get Higuain if I don’t get Firmino. If I don’t get Robertson, I might grab Azpi but not sure on that yet.
Robertson and Higuain route.
Cheers GP. THat’s the way I have been leaning. A certain £13.5m Liverpool attacker is probably enough of an investment in their attack!
I think so.
I also go this route…actually I already did.
Cheers Mito. Then it looks like I’ll be copying you this week 😉
I’ve had Robbo for a long time and brought in Pipa in before the Fulham game, so technically, not copying me, but yeah, you are copying me. 😉
Your favourite ‘WTF?’ gif would be appropriate here, if I could be bothered to go and find it
Higuain & Robbo.
Higuain looked very lively yesterday.
He should provide (in theory).
The only thing that annoys me (when choosing between him and Hazard) is the fact that Hazard’s price is now only 10.8(was 11.4 before).
Higuain is 9.6.
So, for just 0.8 more Hazard looks like the (way) better pick.
His price will for sure go up between now and GW31 as everyone will be getting him in for the double, so if one chooses to go w/out him, there’s a chance he may get out of reach in a week or two (considering the funds will be spent elsewhere).
Saying this, if one has the money – > should probably go & get both.
Cheers for this, HL. I agree with you completely. Problem for me though is getting Hazard into my midfield. Lacazette to Higuain is a straight switch whereas bringing in Hazard would require Pogba or Son making way, and right now I’m not sure I want to do that; Pogba is £1m more than what I bought him for and Son has Soton this week. Next week I could try to get rid of Son but I think that is unlikely. It looks like I will in effect be playing a 4-3-2 in GW31, which I’m okay with. Might yet decide to take a point hit to get rid of Jimenez next week to be able to field a full 11.
I completely understand.
I want to do (pretty much) the same move, which is a direct swap Kun (or Laca) to Higuain,
as I don’t think I ll survive w/out a single CHE asset in GW30.
Problem is, once I do the above mentioned swap – Hazard will be out of reach!
The only to get him later on(say in GW31) is to lose Mane or Mo – which is something I don’t want to even consider doing.
So, I’m torn between getting Higuain and forgetting about Hazard or going w/out any of them vs WOL and figuring out a strategy to get both in 31.
Anyway, think I’ll wait for THU to see who plays vs DYK and then decide.
Yeah, definitely worth waiting until Thursday for. Wolves have conceded in most of their games away from home so I’m keen to have someone from Chelsea this week. Tricky on Hazard though. I think I’ll just go without him myself as my midfield would need to be shaken up and I’m not sure he’s worth it. Lacazette, on the other hand, is even a risk when he starts the game, as his early substitution showed us this weekend!
Southampton beats this Spurs team. Not worried about not having Son for that game. Last famous words and all that…
Azpi + Higgs doable? If so, then that.
Cheers DM
Which triplet would you prefer for GWs 31&33?
King(Wilson) / Mane / Luiz
Higuaín / Fraser / TAA
H/F/T
I’m leaning towards first one myself, having already Mane and Luiz, the problem being I’m not sure we’ll know which one to take between King and Wilson!
I would probably have Wilson if by then we’re sure he plays.
Yeah that’s a problem in the first triplet… Perhaps the second one is better after all, Higuaín looked quite good and Liverpool haven’t scored a lot lately, I just feel they will score mightily against Fulham…
I wouldn’t go as far as “Higuain looked quite good” But I feel he’s pretty nailed in PL games now which is a big plus.
But I think the ceiling is higher with first combo. Maybe a bit more risky.
Fraser doesn’t fill me up with confidence either… Tough decision this!
Can’t get my head around these BGWs and DGWs!! I feel like I have a pretty good set up for DGW32 but have to rip it up to provide for BGW31 & BGW33 and then FH some players back in for DGW32!!
Anyone feeling the same?
I haven’t really put much thought into my FPL plans, except when I’ve recently been purchasing BGW players, but if you really do feel semi-prepared for the DGW32 extravaganza with your current squad…
FH in BGW31 and TC in DGW32 (a major selling point) before crossing your fingers for BGW33 instead?
I’m still intending to FH in DGW32 as I’m not feeling quite so prepared.
The main problem ai see with FHing in GW31 is that we’ll only find out the dates for the rearranged fixtures between GW31 & 32.
Ah fck, its all a mess
You mean in relation to who you need to be buying now for 32? If so then yeah that’s what’s confusing me as to which way is best to go right now.
Pretty sure I’ll FH31, TC32, WC34 and BB35 but as you say it’s basically all still up in the air!
Hum. And 33?
What about it?
Sorry Init, yeah pretty much that which is why I am thinking its better to not FH in 31 and have all chips in hand for 32’and beyond so when those rearranged fixtures are announced we can at least plan with more knowledge.
I was replying to DMC about 33, not hurrying you along
I sort of have to FH in 31 as I’ve shunned it really, semi intentionally, to favour 32 and be able to TC and BB in DGW’s. May not be ideal but who knows, sort of backed myself into a plan corner but that was dictated to by numbers available for 31. But each case is different, Site Team looks to have more flexibility as to when to play them, just as an example.
That’s ironically amusing – the Site Team normally suffers as we focus on our own teams yet this season it’s outperforming all of us!
As James is saying, you might consider another chip strategy then?
FH31, TC in 32 where there could be really good options, when many other players will actually just TC on single game week.
Then do your best for 33, I believe some players who should have a DGW32 will also play in 33 (Arsenal, maybe Chelsea, probably some others, I didn’t check)
Went against all odds and played my 2nd WC pretty early, in GW27.
Seemed a bit radical and deffo a very unconventional at the time (of doing it), but I can only say that I have never been this relaxed in terms of planning for the BGW’s and DGW’s in a veeeery long time.
The team has been set up in a way to reap the benefits of GW27-GW30, is very well set up for the BGW’s(31 & 33), and even if don’t use the FH in DGW32(which I probably will, but anyway), I can easily set a good team up for 32, using only my FT’s.
The green arrows since I’ve activated the WC also confirm the choice was not as ludicrous as first thought.
HL. You only have 3 players for the DGW32. How are you planning to set a team for the doubles with just using FTs? I’m on the opposite boat. I have also used my WC, but my team just has 4 players for the blank31. It still looks good for the DGW32.
Constanine – I think you meant I have only 3 DGW players for 32 .
I do have 11 SGW players to field, but only 3 DGW-ers, yes.
At the time (of activating the WC), I had penciled down the FH for DGW32.
I’m still pretty sure I will use the FH in DGW32, if something extraordinary doesn’t happen that is.
There is a small chance of me not using the FH now ( a small one) in case I decide the DGW teams that play in 32 are just not wort it doubling up on them and decide to go with the SGW players I have + 1 CHE player and 1 UTD player.
It’s a risk, yes – but from today’s perspective, I still feel that DGW35 will be much stronger (as it was last year) so there is a very small chance of saving the FT for 35.
Hope it’s a bit more clear now 😉 .
If you have to get 1 City attacker for Gw30 – whom will you get?
That’s a tough one, tbh.
With the Schalke game only 3days after, it’s a wild guess.
Personally, I think Jesus will start.
Kun might get the last 30mins (or so) and then probably start the CL game.
Although City has it (almost) wrapped up, the 3-2 result is not the best one they have hoped for to have before the return leg.
