Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 29

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 29. Back so soon? Life as an FPL manager can be brutal! First world problems and all that, eh?! Three deadlines in the space of 9 days can take its toll mentally, especially when you have to try and factor in the upcoming blanks and doubles, and trying to do so by playing a bit of a guessing game at this stage.

Back at it we are though, and so are Spurs and Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime, as they now seemingly enter a battle for 3rd / 4th spot with each other and also Man Utd, not quite the battle Spurs were hoping for only a week ago. We then have a relative treat at 3pm on Saturday with no less than 5 games. Man City look to keep the pressure on Liverpool as they visit Bournemouth, Brighton will be hoping to pull further clear of the relegation zone and in turn further condemn Huddersfield to their own inevitable fate, Burnley and Palace will be hoping their’s turns into a typical mid-table clash but both still need a few points on the board to make that a reality, Ole will be looking to continue to look invincible as Saints visit Old Trafford with their own agenda and Wolves will look to kiss and make up with their FPL fans with a home game against Cardiff, whose own fans may be forgiven for thinking their own team has already kissed the PL goodbye. What’s the record for the longest sentence ever?!

West Ham and Newcastle is finally looking like a genuine mid-table clash on Saturday evening. Give it three more weeks and the flip-flops will be getting packed in abundance for both.

Watford and Leicester kick us off on Sunday and continue the mid-table theme at 12pm, before a mini derby as Fulham host Chelsea before a proper derby closes us out as Everton look to derail the Liverpool title charge. They won’t, but it should be fun watching them try!

The games in full…

Planning to FH in 32 and hence have a fair ish team for 31 and 33.

Was thinking Mane and Wilson in for Son and Rashford.

But part of me thinks Vardy is a good option. Is it too risky bringing him in for Aguero this week?

Should I focus on Mane or swap doherty out for TAA ? (Max 3 pool)

I would keep Kun for Watford.

      • beno1234 says:

His home record is too good.

Maybe just Son to Mane and Rash to Wilson then (team news dependent). Doherty to pereira for a hit too

        • Kralin says:

I’m not thinking too much about the Leicester defence, more the Leicester attack. If I was FH in 31 I would be though.

Son to Mane sounds ok. I’m debating Mane or Hazard (as Sterling replacements for 31). But I don’t have to make my mind up on that one until 31.

The good news for us not FH31 managers coming from this gw is that we didn’t lost as much ground (or even gained a few OR spots) as we were ‘supposed’ to vs teams that are FH31 and thus are not as limited as we are in transfers (in and out!). We just need to repeat that in gw30 to be climbing the ladder in great fashion!

      Kralin says:

Yes (though that wasn’t the case for me this week, with a sub-average score). However…will be interesting (in a fashion) this week to see how many non-FH managers in 31 make the leap towards building a GW31 side, potentially jeopardising their GW30 team.

Having said that, the Leicester, Bournemouth and Chelsea GW30 / 31 fixtures arguably help the non FH31 managers slightly more, as everyone will be piling into those players anyway. The FH in 31 school will have the advantage of 11 players in GW31; it’s just of those 11 players, most others will have 7, 8 or 9 exactly the same. And all likely to be captaining Salah.

      • Frenchie says:

        Agree with your points.
Should we add West Ham to that list? (Cardiff and Huddersfield in GW30 and 31).
Still not sure if I want one of their assets (apart from Fab) and who.

I’m really scratching my head with the chip situation! I have all chips and WC and initially thought about riding out 31 with around 8 players and then FH in 32. But the more I look at it, the more baffled I get!

DGWs with lots of teams playing twice will happen in 32 and 35 unless I’m wrong? Would it not be sensible to use BB and TC in these weeks respectively? It would mean having to build for 15 dgw players between now and then or WC in 30 taking a risk that none get injured. FH in 31 to cover the blanks.

I guess I’m wondering what the merits of riding out 31 and FH in 32 are if it means playing either BB or TC on a single gw? Someone help!

      DMC says:

@igy4 I’ll give you my views on it.
I believe the FH chip was built to cover blank gws, namely to keep the more casual players interested, as they are more prone to not plan properly and then ‘give up’ entirely if a blank gw leaves them too far. And that was my initial plan: to play it in a bgw. However, we now have virtually two blanks, 31 and 33, with a double (that we expect to be a big one) in the middle. So, while I concur that BB and TC are more effective if played on a double, tha fact is that having the possibility to choose 11 players for dgw32 and then repeat that for 34 (with an eye to BB in 35) makes using the FH in a gw31 with not so great fixtures a bit meh. This means TC is played on a single (unless Chelsea have another double), but even so. It’s way more powerful to have a go at 11 players for dgw32 than for sgw 31.

All that said, I’d add that there are no real wrong or right answers to this. It’s all related to your team and league/rank situation. What I can say is that, if you can field at least 8/9 players in 31 ( and thus 33, probably) you are much better off with FH32 + WC34+BB35+TC in a SGW than with FH in 31.

On the TC front, also bear in mind that while it’s preferable to play it in a double – for obvious reasons – it’s also worth mentioning that the usual suspects are often still involved in euro cups at those stages and that tended to hamper a bit their minutes/points so yeah, not ideal to play on a sgw , but under this year’s circumstances I think we can get away with it.

      • igy4 says:

Thanks DMC! Some good perspective there and definitely food for thought! I see your point about it being better to field 11 for a dgw than a single. I’m likely going with the FH in 32 because I’ve already started planning for 31 but just needed a strategy for the rest of the chips. The annoying part is not knowing which fixture will happen where at this stage! Do you still have all chips available?

      • Kralin says:

        good analysis

      • @DMC, I agree with all of that and have started shifting my team so as to play my FH in 32. I believe the FH is the biggest chip in the game and I want to use it in the biggest double of the season if possible, not that it will pan out, but one can only try.

      • @DMC good comments. I am likely going for FH31, TC32 (Pogba/Rashford/Hazard look like juicy contenders), WC34 and BB35. This is because I only have 5 BGW31 players at the moment. However, on my sons team, he has 9 BGW31 players ATM so with 2FT’s between this week and next, he should be able to field 11 – his strategy (having already used his TC) is FH32, WC34 and BB35. No right / wrong answers but looking at a few forums, most are looking like WC34 and BB35 so that should be the template leading up to that point.

Hi all, Any thoughts comparing the two strategies below. Both would be preparing the team for GW31.
    FH31, WC34, BB35.
    WC32, FH33, BB35.

      AT says:

Hi Stone Frog. Just a few initial thoughts:
      – the advantages and disadvantages of both are massively dependent on how your team looks now; if you have 7+ (decent) players for GW31 already, I’d be tempted not to go for FH in 31. The reason for this is that shifting the FH to GW32 would allow you to field 11 strong DGWers which should see you gain more points across the two GWs. If you don’t have many GW31 players, that hopefully means you have a decent side for GW32 and therefore the FH in 31 makes more sense.
      – My concern for both of the methods stated is that using the FH in one of the blanks could well leave you short in the other blank GW given that the majority of the teams that are playing in 31 are also likely going to be the ones playing in 33, FA Cup dependent. As such, building your team for GW 31 and 33 and using the chips to negotiate the doubles is the strategy I have opted for.

    • 124.2

Option 1 if you have less than (say) 7 or 8 players ATM. With option 2, have you planned for your team in GW34?

  5. 125

Højbjerg -> Fraser a good move?

    Fabianski
    Robbo TAA Pereira
    Son Salah Pogba Anderson
    Higuain Jimenez Rashford

    Boruc Schär Doherty Højbjerg

    • 125.1
      AT says:

I like that move. I’d be a bit concerned about Fraser’s lack of goals and assists recently but that could well be down to the opposition they have played against over the past few months.

      I’m looking at Brooks too.

    • 125.2
      Frenchie says:

I like it too, and I’m thinking of a similar move.
Just one question: who do you bench in GW30 then? Jimenez? Son?

    • 125.3

No Man City players? BGW31 aside, MCI vs WAT(H), Blank, FUL(A) (no DGW), CAR(H). I can see the likes of Aguero/Sterling scoring a handful over the next 4 GWs despite a blank and no double.

      • AT says:

City could have the Cardiff game moved to GW32. Depends on the FA Cup results.

Depends on chip strategy – I too have no City but I fully expect to free hit in GW32 and have a couple of them. Perhaps three if they have a double.

Alexis Sanchez reportedly out for around two months with a knee injury. A few years ago that would have been important news to us FPLers! laugh
