Fantasy Football FF247 Team Gameweek 7

GW6 turned out pretty well in the end as we recorded an above average score of 52pts. Like many teams, our star-studded midfield were useless – Sterling, Di Maria, Fabregas and Sigurdsson provided just 9pts between them – it was certainly one of those strange FPL weeks! Captain Costa did his thing, ably supported by Aguero – both notching a goal, while keeper Mannone and defenders Wilson and Taylor all recorded clean sheets. We weren’t alone in being let down by the Southampton defence – that was our home banker for a clean sheet!! So, all in all, very satisfying – we have moved up to position 15,793 which puts us in the top 0.5% in the world.

Transfer for GW7
We were lucky enough to avoid both the Rooney madness and the Ramsey injury and as such have a fairly healthy and available squad from which to choose this week. So fit and healthy in fact that we were almost wishing for an injury to force our hand as the best we could come up with was a minor switch to one of our bench players! Again. It wasn’t for the want of trying though and the change we did, as boring and irrelevant as it is, was well thought through and rationalised as we shall explain.

We have transferred in…. wait for it…. Boyd of Burnley for King of Leicester. Yeah we know, but hear us out… Our main aim in GW8 is to bring Baines in given his output on assists and set-pieces allied to some great fixtures from next week onward. In order to facilitate this we need funds. We are sat on 2 FT’s currently. The Baines move would possibly see Sterling leave our team for Tadic and either Taylor or Wilson in order to bring in Baines. This is our likely move next week and we very nearly bit the bullet and did it all this week. We decided to hold off given that Baines is away at Man Utd, Tadic is away at Spurs and Sterling is at home to WBA.

Holding off, whilst sensible, presents its own problems. And hence our transfer. We would have had £0.1m in the bank to play with if we did the Baines and Tadic moves next week. We were concerned that this would not be enough come deadline day. It is likely that both Baines and Tadic will rise in price over the international break especially as both have good fixtures ahead. We have therefore decided to transfer in Boyd as he gives us a £0.1m cushion. We should point out that we never intend to play him intentionally and in theory he will forever look on from the sidelines. As such, as opposed to losing the FT, he feels like a good investment as he gives us an extra £0.1m to play with on our Baines/Tadic move and possibly means that we can wait a bit longer next week to do so. The extra £0.1m was the sole reason for this transfer. We never intend to play Boyd unless we are forced to do so but we wanted someone that plays, which he does, but mainly he gives us a bit more money. Strategic we are!

This is how FF247 will line-up for GW7 –

Captain
This was fairly unanimous. We have gone for Aguero, It was him or Costa but Aguero has the easier fixture on paper and we feel with Villa having conceded 3 to Chelsea last time out that Aguero is a prime candidate for points this week.

Hello guys! Got 0.7M in the bank 1FT.
I probably have to get rid of Lovren and maybe switch Heaton to Mannone. Can you give me any transfer suggestions?

Ballotelli out is the one that jumps out. Falcoa, Aguero or wait for Sturridge seem the most obvious in, funded by Terry or Lovren to Taylor. Mannone seems decent shout.

        Thanks for your suggestions.
I am not sure which one should i do. I lost to my rival 4 times in a row and I need a differential.
        Lovren —–> Taylor + Heaton —–> Mannone (and take a -4 hit).
or Terry —-> Taylor + Balo —-> Aguero (and keep Heaton for one GW)

Defence causing me absolute nightmares this morning! Who (3) to pick out of Moore, Taylor, Clyne, Moreno, Pieters?

For me, Moore is a must given his opposition…
Taylor is probably second best and the fact that Pieters was benched last week puts him at the bottom of the pecking order.

Can anyone see Liverpool or Southampton keeping a clean sheet this weekend? Both Moreno and Clyne have excellent attacking threats.
Pool have an easier fixture but aren’t in form compared with a flying Southampton side.
On paper Southampton have a tricky game but Spurs’ record after Europa League matches is awful and they come into the game with a record of LDLD. Thoughts? Who are you picking?

Costa, aguero, Costa, aguero. *flips coin* . To those who have both, who are you giving the armband to this week?

Captain picks? I see Costa and Aguero take up 25% each with Sterling and AdM on 7%. I’ve on adm. Who you got?

    I have asked a few days ago but I am still really torn for captain choice;
Sterling – Easy fixture, on form BUT West Brom looking better, was **** in midweek, might be rested
Balotelli – Same for fixture, must score soon, potential big haul BUT terrible form, could be dropped
Di Maria – Everton are unpredictable, involved in lots, on form BUT poor last week, everton could be good, no rooney for support
Costa – On form, scoring every game BUT played midweek and could be rested (or subbed off), tough fixture

Any advice is good, even if only to rule one out.

      Albertini says:

From that lot I’d exclude Di Maria (on form but not a proven goalscorer in each game) and Balo (rumours that he will be benched with Lambert starting in his place), Costa is the safer bet but, as you said, it’s a tough fixture and he played all 90 mins midweek.

    Gw 4–Saturday.
    Gw 5–Sunday.

2012-2013 season, a top 3 scorer aways came in the last match of a gameweek and this theory saved me well for most of the season. I think Mito may be the only person on here that remembers the debates i used to have with people about it :big-lol:

      • Mitro says:

I do remember there was a period that the highest scoring player was on a Sunday!!!

      • peakydave says:

I remember Mr Bean!! When u said about it I looked into it and that (or last I forget now!) season Monday night games produced on average just over +1 goal more than games played on any other day! 😉

        • Mr Bean says:

Monday night games with Gareth Bale were my favourite that year! I spent a whole Saturday arguing against RVP as captain because Suarez played at 4 on Sunday…then RVP got 16 points and I began to lose all faith…until Suarez got 16 points in 30 minutes!

This year, my captain plan is to avoid Costa for the most part and look at other players with decent fixtures.

        • peakydave says:

Haha ive gone the other way,my default setting is Costa unless anyone jumps out at me in any week! smile
          #boringisbest

        • Mr Bean says:

If I wasnt in the position I’m in, Costa captain every week would be the best choice! I just don’t feel like playing it safe when I’m so close to breaking the top 100 for the first time ever! One good captain choice and I’ll be flying!

        • peakydave says:

Good for you mate that’s brilliant!! Hope ur form continues! Its funny Mr B with so many people looking to not captain Costa now then he will suddenly become a different option again! 😉
