Fantasy Football (has been suspended!) Update

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (perhaps advisable right now) you will be aware that the Premier League have suspended all fixtures until (at least) April 4th. In essence this means that we will miss GW’s 30 & 31 and resume in GW32. Whether the 32 target actually happens is a different matter but for now that is what we are being told to work towards. We just wanted to make you aware of a few key things…

FPL have released the following on Twitter;

    To pick the bones out of that, essentially what it all means is;

  • GW’s 30 & 31 will still happen, albeit in a ghost fashion.
  • You’ll get zero points awarded (unless you somehow still take a hit!).
  • Any moves you make (be that transfers, hits, chips) will still count and be there whenever (if) we resume.
  • They’ve waffled on about the FPL Cup and how it all affects H2H leagues but who really cares!

We appreciate that the above is short ‘n sweet but that is all you need to know in a nutshell. We shall update this accordingly as and when we know more.

Please feel free to continue to chat amongst yourselves as usual and add any relevant info in the comments if you see / hear anything pertinent to the above.

Thanks for reading Fantasy Football (has been suspended!) Update.

I’ve survived today but only because we had an extremely busy day planned anyway. Even filled the morning football void with family visiting. But I do fear what’ll happen if it continues for a while! I’m rather fond of my routine of Saturday morning football and then eventually settling down to watch Soccer Saturday and then the evening game with a beer. I like the break in the summer but probably because we know it’s limited and temporary and exactly when we are back. It’s the unknown right now which is the hard part to fathom.

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Plus during summer it’s actually very nice to explore the outdoors… Well, it’s getting warmer outside now already, but still, it’s rather cold and rainy and slushy out there… Obviously talking about Finland but I guess UK is similar…

        • Kralin says:

I sowed a few seeds today and moved a couple of plants around the garden. Cut a few things down. Talked myself out of mowing the lawn. Thought I’d check the scores and had a quiet little blub.

          Friday’s weather was better.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in, and stops my mind from wandering, where it will go…

          Made me laugh.

      • Kralin says:

My feeling is – and I hope I’m wrong – is that we’re in a weird lull before the virus wave crashes over us and the really serious business starts.

It feels more like a storm building so far.

I can’t quite believe that Euro games were going on two days’ ago.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Just lock your door, stay inside and listen to “Radio Ethiopia” on repeat (the song), and yeah I know it’s similar to “Sister Ray” but I couldn’t care less, really… smile

        • Kralin says:

Blimey, not heard that for a while. Good idea. Suicide’s Rocket USA hits a similar spot.

      • constantine says:

I’m just trying to trick my brain by thinking that the season is over and we are having a 3 months’ break. If we have any game(s) now, I’d be euphoric.
        smile

    Jamie Mc says:

I think the solution is to wait until the virus is over.

    Delay the euro’s until 2021.

Play the rest of the season through the summer.

I assume the configuration of the season will need to change for the Qatar world cup.

Can season 20-21 starting late not begin the process of being ready for the winter world cup.

That’s pretty much what I think will happen too. And yes it could very well play into their hands in terms of being able to plan that WC scheduling better with a now open book and fluid situation.

Although I do think the conspiracy theory that FIFA are responsible for releasing the virus to create the above scenario is a bit far fetched. Or is it………. 😉

      GentleBenAKA says:

I also think that’s what will happen. But I wonder what will happen with players who are in their last year of contract. Those contracts end in June…

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Well those contracts will end in June… Either they pen new deals or they leave

      • Smash says:

I think the season will be declared void. Contracts up in the summer, players having their summer break which is probably in contracts. It will be worse when season is due to return in April and they will run out of weeks even if they call off cups

        • Kralin says:

I agree, though there’s a notion of playing between July – September. That is complex because transfers for 20/21 will be able to play in 19/20 and so on – or maybe they won’t.

But the summer idea seems based on Euro 2020 being postponed, which we’re not sure will happen (surely it will). It’s also maybe based on the UK having got on top of the virus, which is by no means guaranteed.

      VanDan says:

+1 It would be helpful if the schedule is somewhat parallel across all UEFA members so that the cup competitions could be concluded. It’s of course possible for all the football that’s still left to be played (Including the Euros) to be spread, comfortably, throughout 20/21.

    • 34.4
      Rosco says:

Yeah 100% agree and think that is what will happen. Chances are they will build extra GWs into FPL and we may end up with a few extra doubles here and there :good:

    ***COMMUNITY FEEDBACK***

Right then, we usually do this in the summer but given as it’s quietened up on here now I thought I’d get in early…

We (I) want to know –

    1. Are the articles on the correct topics?

    2. Any articles missing? Ideas for alternatives?

    3. Any key site features missing? What do you go elsewhere for?

    4. What would you add? Open floor, basically.
All /any ideas welcome. (apart from rolling comments unless anyone can show us one that works in conjunction with pictures!)

    Thanks

I’m extremely. satisfied with FF247. Hats off for all of you. I can’t think-at the moment-of any extra article.
I only go elsewhere for podcasts. If you managed to add podcasts, and tried to include past seasons regulars’ champs, I’ll be glued here for good.

      KI says:

Overall, I am extremely satisfied. I particularly appreciate the (normal) end of season navigation, as well as the extra work folks have put into the suspension.
As a member of the Foreign Legion, I’d appreciate it if folks would consider reinstating the predicted lineups article, as we don’t have immediate Friday morning or Saturday morning access to sickness or injury information (or savvy comments on the convoluted mind selecting the Citeh team).

      • KI

I’ll let admin confirm this but the predicted line ups is a great deal of work on a particularly busy day for most of us personally.

If you look at the latest comments during press conference days, you’ll usually find screenshots of the club’s press conferences posted.

      • Ki, this was halted for the exact reasons GP states. And he’s correct that the key issues are usually posted in the comments but I appreciate that they can therefore be a bit all over the shop and difficult to find. A more coordinated and organised approach is required and is something I had on the pad for next season already.

Perhaps a weekly article which is simply for this purpose that the community can add to in the comments with a link / heading for each team so that the info is easy to find and is more organised. But happy to hear suggestions.

        • KI says:

          Init,

If there’s some easy way to collate announced lineups, and related comments, I’d appreciate it. And yes, GP, I have appreciated the work in the past, and agree that team-by-team monitoring for the 247 staff is too much to ask.

      constantine says:

      1. I think so.
      2. May be we can have success stories of the previous season’s winners/top rankers(top 10k or something). It can give one a perspective on why he/she did(or is doing) good or bad currently.
      3. a)I know it’s a bit difficult, but can we have a “notification” when we receive a reply in our comment. How so ever old it might be.
b)Can we have a ribbon kind of a thing on the very top of the screen(just like news channels) where we can have latest updates on various things. Like sudden changes/leaks of line-ups, Injury updates on key players, etc.
Rest, me being an “oldie” on this site, can’t switch to any other platform now. I’m committed.

      • Constant, thanks for the feedback. Answers;

        2. We often do these in pre-season and periodically across the season via interviews.

        3. We used to have this but it didn’t work properly and when GDPR came along we scrapped it completely as it was a minefield.

        b. Easy enough to install but again it then requires maintenance so perhaps it’s something to think about when I address the team news stuff as per the answer to Ki.

Afternoon guys although I haven’t been on much this season I’m constantly reading as much as I can on this site all the information is useful I do use other sites for player stats (form) price changes but this by far is my favorite.

Maybe along with the tips article show who is performing well shots , crosses , goals ect who has best worse def.

You all do sterling work on this site and the members are a great bunch , now where my drink

      The B says:

Would like to add that quality of writing has improved this season like every other season, with more stats on offer in them.

Regarding an article suggestion, I think it would be great to have a GW run down article. Like on Monday we could have an article that summarizes how the GW went, who were the stars and who were the trolls. How bad were AT’s GW tips, and how Kop’s captain pick produced a measly one pointer. Or maybe how Rosco suggested all to captain Mane, but himself captained Salah hypocritically. Mentioning here or there how Raz went crazy after bagging zero clean sheets could be a consolation statement. But that wouldn’t affect him much, he has his GW deadline missing excuse ready most of the time.

Perhaps include special mentions of people who gave great advises on the comment boards. And highlight those that offered the worst.

      Just thinking out loud.

      Good luck!

      • Rosco says:

        In summary:

        • We’re getting better at this writing lark.
        • AT is crap at tips
        • Kop is shit at captains
        • I’m a liar
        • Raz has a terrible defense
        • Raz has poor time keeping
        • general reminder of who is shit on the boards

        Sounds canny that B! :big-lol:

      • “And highlight those that offered the worst”.

I’ll assume you don’t work in marketing B

      • Raziel says:

I had Ryan all season and I remember the week you dropped Pope for Ryan. Each time I see Ryan mess up, I know I can share the missery with you, B. Haha. Gets better when you realize all the points Pope gathered. smile

Glad it’s a consolation to you to see my defense fail. Still 140k ranked above you though. So keep trying. :hippo:

As for above, I joke about missing the deadline there. Since there are no games. Furthermore I messed Champions League up with missing the deadlines several times, but that’s about it. The times I missed the fpl deadline (which has been 2 or 3 times this season), it actually played out failry well for me. Sometimes no transfer is better than a transfer.

You excel in speaking negative about other people B. Damn, if it was part of a job description, you’d be rich right about now. :bop:

Articles are pretty much spot on IMO.

One thing I would like to see – possibly ‘stickied’ as a hot topic is a list of FPL resources – sites which have some of the detailed stats that some seem to have access to, apps with live GW scores etc.

      Special Agent Dale Cooper says:

The scoutcast meet the manager series (some good interviews on FPL, innit and others on here have the rank history to be on one of these vids) made me take a look at their forum for the first time this season.

I’ve lurked on here regularly for a long time, since before this site got continued from FFC. While its clear that the vibe over there is nothing compared to this brilliant community , its a nice touch the way you can up vote comments you feel worthy. Might be worth adopting if its easy to do, i think its a nice touch.

Big thanks to all contributors and posters, for all the hard work and content you bring us and for making this a great FPL site.

      • Thanks Dale. We’ve never ventured into Pods or videos and from a time POV I doubt we ever will but occasionally doing something similar in a written interview format may be a good one for IB’s and the like.

We did discuss ‘upvotes’ on comments a few years back and I honestly can’t remember the reason now but it was decided against, or ‘downvoted’ if you will smile , but I definitely remember agreeing with the reason why we wouldn’t do it!

And thanks for the kind comments!

Being by dull instinct someone who tends to take people and things as they are I think the site is fine and benefits from not being like other sites.

      1. Given that they are freely given then they can be on any topic at all as far as I can see;
      2. I think tips / fixtures / captains is a fair spread and covers most of the discussion BTL; if anyone wants anything else they need to write it themselves;
      3. Injuries mainly and that info can be picked up easily enough;
      4. Sound
