Fantasy Football (has been suspended!) Update

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (perhaps advisable right now) you will be aware that the Premier League have suspended all fixtures until (at least) April 4th. In essence this means that we will miss GW’s 30 & 31 and resume in GW32. Whether the 32 target actually happens is a different matter but for now that is what we are being told to work towards. We just wanted to make you aware of a few key things…

FPL have released the following on Twitter;

    To pick the bones out of that, essentially what it all means is;

  • GW’s 30 & 31 will still happen, albeit in a ghost fashion.
  • You’ll get zero points awarded (unless you somehow still take a hit!).
  • Any moves you make (be that transfers, hits, chips) will still count and be there whenever (if) we resume.
  • They’ve waffled on about the FPL Cup and how it all affects H2H leagues but who really cares!

We appreciate that the above is short ‘n sweet but that is all you need to know in a nutshell. We shall update this accordingly as and when we know more.

Please feel free to continue to chat amongst yourselves as usual and add any relevant info in the comments if you see / hear anything pertinent to the above.

Thanks for reading Fantasy Football (has been suspended!) Update.

      Better than not playing at all i guess.

      We should probably not hope for anything more than that in these strange times….

        Yeah I agree, most important thing now is to somehow at least give Pool the title, I read an article yesterday in which a former Arsenal legend said “if it was City with a 25pts lead no one would care”… That they can’t give Pool the title before there’s mathematical certainty… And he had a ignorant reference to snooker as well! Well, I say at least let Pool play two more games to gain the mathematical victory so no former Arsenal legend can cry that their team is just so much worse than Pool right now! smile

        • Zed Leppelin says:

          Pool will, anyway, most likely win the title next season as well, if not for City… Arsenal are no where near the title next season either smile

      I’m part of the “football is nothing without the fans” brigade. I’d rather have my season cancelled than finish it behind closed doors.

      • Special Agent Dale Cooper says:

        Its is less than ideal, especially as i go to my team regularly and we still have lots to play for and it would be rubbish to miss it all to say the least. Plus it will no doubt have an effect (who knows how large or small, or which teams will be most affected) on the remaining games results.

        Saying all that, if that is what has to happen to get the season finished its still worth it over a voided season i think but only as a last resort. If they can get fans in seats safely all the better.

      • Zed Leppelin says:

        That’s rather harsh on all fans who never get to actually go to the matches anyway, overseas fans and all that… They’d happily see the season out even behind closed doors rather than have it cancelled! Football is nothing without the fans, I agree, but there’s a lot more to it than just fans going to the stadiums to see the matches live!

      I’m not sure why neutral venues are needed. But giving Premier league priority over FA Cup, ECL and EL it wouldn’t be too difficult to schedule 3 games per day all at different times over 35 days. On that, we would need to restart by 17 Apt and finish on time

    Assuming the league is suspended and Liverpool aren’t given the title, how would the champions league spots for next year be determined? Surely they wouldn’t follow the current table standings.

      I don’t think they can. In my opinion and I’ve seen it shared in lots of places is that any league must have all its fixtures fulfilled to be determined complete and proper.

      If they just ‘allow’ Liverpool to be crowned Champions – Manchester City, Leicester and Chelsea to fulfil the other three CL spots and Bournemouth, Villa and Norwich to go down then there will be uproar followed be endless legal challenges.

      This league in my opinion has to be completed in full before next season’s can begin. If that impacts next season by being a shortened version (including the European competitions) then that will have to happen.

    Evening all! So i have 2fts like a lot of people, i read earlier of Rosco suggesting to take 1ft and then still have 2fts for GW30 then repeat for GW31 and so on, but im actually thinking about just burning 1ft, I’m not overly upset about anyone in my GW32 team, plus i think im right in thinking less transfers made is better in OR! whats everyone else doing? :scratch_one-s_head:

      I’ve drawn up my ideal team as if I was on a wildcard and I’m slowly going to work towards it.

      It’s just a freebie chance to alter someone if you have deadwood. If you don’t, you don’t. I’ll be looking at both mine and the site team after tomorrow’s PL meeting to assess either way.

      Reason I mention that meeting is that they may clarify something key, at least as regards to an intention, which is whether to restart at GW32 and reschedule 30 & 31 when they can or whether the new window of opportunity makes them rethink and simply crack on as we were with GW30 being the start point. The latter would mean adding a GW39 & 40 but there’s actually no reason why not.

      They may do nothing of the sort and simply shrug their shoulders but I’d wait regardless.
