Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 1

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 1. As the great Bruce Buffer would say “IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTSSS TTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMEE!” Here we go, the planning stage is over and the moment has come to test all your pre-season theories. This season we don’t even have to wait until the weekend either, as the season kicks off on a Friday night. The invincible Arsene Wenger and his boys take on the now “back where they belong” Leicester.

Saturday hits us with a lunch time feast as Watford welcome in Liverpool and their high octane attack. Three o’clock has five fixtures on the slate. The Champs grab their first 3 points when they face Burnley, Palace host newcomer Huddersfield, The Toffees tangle with Stoke, Saints pummel Swansea and The Baggies back from vacation finally after leaving in February mix it up with The Cherries. The Saturday fixtures finish up when recently promoted Brighton tries their hand at figuring out why City paid that much for that defence.

Sunday hits us with the last two fixtures. Newcastle reacquaints themselves with the Premier League when they face Harry Kane and company, geez, what a welcome back. The late game pairs up Man United side versus a Hammers team whose big acquisitions were in part, three old Manchester leftovers, Chicha, Zaba and Hart.

Has anyone noticed the strange goings on at the top of the leaderboard? Most of the top 100 are from Egypt and most of them played BB or TC chip.

Reckon there’s an Egyptian rival to this site somewhere that has been giving out some dodgy strategy advice?

Anyways, hope everyone had a decent start. Got 72 which should have been more but for some late tinkering – have to be happy with that though as most of my team looks good for the coming weeks.

Probably all the same person or a small group of persons. They’re all 1 week only teams vying for the top GW score. FPL should eradicate it really but as I said last night I’m not sure how they actually can.

Just looked and that’s really odd especially seeing as that 5 out of the top 10 I randomly checked would have scored over 100 without the bench boost!
Not great for me as captained Kane, have Luk in my team know so he rescued me leaving me on 58 points. Not good but so much better than it could have been had lukaku blanked!

I noticed something similar last season, the top teams a lot of weeks often seem to be teams specifically set up to get ‘team of the week’.

It would be interesting to know how many of the 4mil teams were actually genuine teams but I’d imagine it would be a logistical nightmare for them to work it out and eradicate it.

I’m guessing these sane teams make any OR moot for a few weeks till these players inevitably neglect these teams as they continue to strive for the small satisfaction they get from their hollow victories!

Robbo, half are probably Egyptian due to the success of Salah and Hegazi, even Elneny!

Although, based on this, that makes me an Egyptian too, erm, in a way… laugh

Today was bittersweet for me, it was great to watch Newcastle back in the prem but Shelvey reverted to type and we deservedly paid for it.
Comedy moment after I took this shot, bloke giving Eriksen grief continued to make said suggestive gesture, Ericksen looked at him and started laughing… he then went on to set up both Spurs goals. Eriksen was a different class today, aside from the assists he dominated the game and dictated pretty much everything they did. Dele seemed to play a lot further forward than Kane at times, it seemed like we focused a little too much on nullifying Kane and that just give Dele/Eriksen and even Sissoko more space.
I have Kane and I’ll be keeping him but I’d like to get Erik too but I’m not in any dash to bin off KDB or Mane. Think with Spurs it will be much like Liverpool, some weeks it will be Dele, some weeks Erik or Kane.. sometimes all 3 but I think over the season they will all score well again so for now I’ll be keeping the faith and not following the knee jerk crowd as he could quite easily destroy Chelsea next week!

After my auto fill team disaster start to a season I have played my WC and here is the draft

      chins says:

Sorry about the nightmare start Starfox.
      I like the team.
I think Vardy and Leicester will come up again much better defenses than Arsenal over the coming weeks but he’s proven two years ago that on his day he can score against anyone.

I think Miki (and Utd overall) looked great today so that could be a good pick too.

Not sure how the $ work out but I think I’d rather DDG and an attacking Spuds defender rather than Lloris and Bailey.

Good luck mate. Hope timing it now means you’ll make a few $ in price rises to ease the pain of that start.

      jamesimmo says:

Starfox, as was suggested earlier, why not start another team? I reckon saving your WC is worth the ~40 points you’d give up… but I can understand the reluctance to lose your season history.

      • inittowinit says:

James if you can guarantee an 39 extra points via a pre Christmas Wildcard then you’re a better fantasy player than most!

        • jamesimmo says:

          I’d like to think I am… 😉

On a more serious note, sure, it’s a big ask. I’d say a strong WC is worth at least 30 points, without considering DGW benefits, but it’s all circumstantial. Christmas injuries — the sheer amount of them — may determine its actual worth.

          I made no guarantee haha.

      jasprit says:

over and above what chins said, a southampton defender would do good for you.
and atsu looked very threatening and has easy fixtures coming up, you might want to look into him instead of doucoure.

      Star fox,
      I’d do Lloris-Bailly-Ward -> DDG-Davies-Cedric

    jasprit says:

hello everyone! hope many had a solid start to the season.
did pretty well myself with 77 though gutted i didn’t follow my heart and go for aguero+eriksen over kane+kdb.

giving my team another week though without any changes, hoping the likes of alonso, gabbiadini, de bruyne come good.

anybody else regretting not following their hearts? 😛

    • 226.1
      inittowinit says:

Hey Jasprit, hope you are well. That’s a tough quartet! Without the benefit of hindsight I’d have gone with what you had, and did too. Nothing to say that it won’t be the right way round for you next week though. Point on the quartet thing though is that fitting all of those in wouldn’t be the worst idea.

I ended up with 84, I had Davies in until my last draft and removed him to wedge Alonso in… Still pleased though.

Lots of really high scores for game week 1, well done guys.

I was sitting with 28 points with 9 players on Saturday night.

Well chuffed to end up with 62 points this game week after an alli goal and lukaku double and as captain salvaged my game week.

    Jamie

    Not a bad GW1 with 80 points

Think i should transfer Pogba>Mkhitaryan before the price rise, or is that a waste of a FT?
