Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW31

Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. What have the leaders been up to and what will our leaders being doing as we edge towards the end of the season? More importantly, how will they approach the ensuing DGW bonanza set for DGW’s 34 and 37? Let’s take a look and see what’s going on.

How are our current leaders going to approach GW 34?

Unlike many of my league competitors who have deployed nearly every chip and wildcard, I have failed to use one so, like many of you, I have been planning and plotting potential possibilities (I love alliteration) for the plethora of double games which will take place in GW 34 and 37. I am debating if the proper course of action is to deploy the wildcard during GW 33 and the bench boost for GW 34 or to wait until nearly the end of the season for GW 37 tactics.

This led me to wonder, how many wildcards have our top managers used? I was quite surprised to see that 7 out of the 10 had used both wildcards. Apparently, their strategies will not include a wildcard. (Players in positions 3, 5 and 8 are the ones with an available wildcard).

What was another interesting observation for GW 31?

An interesting observation this week was the fact that 9 out of 10 managers possess Sergio Aguero. Why? This may sound cruel and I may jinx myself here but I wonder if Aguero will pan out for the remaining part of the season as Manchester City seems to be focused perhaps on other priorities (Champions League)? With a hefty £13.6 price tag and an ownership rate of 34.2%, he isn’t much of a differential and when compared to Vardy, he is still 57 points behind. Granted, his next 2 matches are against Bournemouth and West Brom and he does have DGW 34 so perhaps some folks can afford to have him onboard. Any thoughts here?

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 31?

Goalkeepers: This week was rather interesting as our top managers selected 7 different goalkeepers. Butland was the most popular pick coming in at 30% ownership while Hennessey had 20% ownership and Forster, Gomes, Hart, Schmeichel and Courtois each came in with 10%.

Defenders: As usual, we saw a plethora of defenders played by the top ten; a total of 13 different players. Alderweireld was the most popular picks as 9 of the 10 managers selected him. Huth came in at 40% ownership while Williams and Bellerin each had 30%. Sagna and Fuchs had a 20% ownership rate while the remaining defenders all came in with 10% ownership: Koscielny, Monreal, Dann, Coleman, Clyne, Nyom and Daniels.

Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had only 9 different picks. 90% of managers selected Mahrez and Alli followed by Payet and Ozil with 60%, Sigurdsson with 50%, Arnautovic with 40% and Eriksen, Willian and Fabregas each with 10%.

Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of only 5 picks among the top managers. 100% had Kane and 100% of our top managers selected Kane as this week’s captain. 90% had Aguero, 70% had Vardy, and 10% had Rondon and Berahino.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 31 were Alderweireld, Alli, Payet, Mahrez, Ozil, Sigurdsson, Vardy, Kane and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:

* The average score for Gameweek 31 among the top 10 was 82.6 points which was an impressive 26.6 points above average for the week.

* The average team/club value was £107.9 with £111 being the most expensive team and £104.8 being the cheapest team.

* Most of the leaders have deployed all their chips.

* England represented only 20% the leader board with the following countries being the following: Australia (currently in the lead), Sweden, Canada, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Thailand, Ireland, Malaysia and Scotland.

* Two of our leaders have been in the top 10 for over 17 weeks!

Hope this was useful!

Best of luck in Gameweek 32!

It it wasn’t for a DGW saving him Aguero would be out my team. He’s been awful in 2016. So not worth his 13.5M Slightly annoyed I had to get rid of Kane for Lukaku as I couldn’t afford doing the Vardy swap.

Hey Gunners, I feel the same way mate but its as soon as everyone ships him out he’ll score 2 hattricks in a row haha smile That really is a pity, I’m thinking of doing Vardy to Welbeck as I don’t want to lose Kane and I also don’t like Everton’s fixtures

Gunners, I’ve kept both Kane and Mahrez in my WC team. They would be nearly impossible to get back in and I wouldn’t want to be without Mahrez for GWs 33 & 35! They’ve shown that they can and are likely to score as much or more in one match than many others would in a DGW. Plus, I’m worried about rotation in the DGW and it would really suck to switch them out for players that ended up only starting one match!
I think Kun out is dangerous, considering their GW 33 & 35 opposition is home to WBA and home to Stoke. I’ll be keeping him myself.

Does anyone know / have heard news regards Hart? I know the DGW is a while away yet but if he was to be out for a month or so, Caballero would be a great pick for the DGW and would feel up a lot of cash.

Rambo, not sure on Hart. I’ve tried my WC team with Caballero in there but I think that without Kompany and Hart they may be in trouble at the back…
Who is this “lot of cash” that Caballero has been “feeling up”? This another Adam Johnson-esque scandal???

Thanks for the article. Really look forward to this each time.

I’d love to be sitting in third with a WC. Heck, third with nothing left would do 😉
