Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW31

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 08.55.05

Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. What have the leaders been up to and what will our leaders being doing as we edge towards the end of the season? More importantly, how will they approach the ensuing DGW bonanza set for DGW’s 34 and 37? Let’s take a look and see what’s going on.

How are our current leaders going to approach GW 34?

Unlike many of my league competitors who have deployed nearly every chip and wildcard, I have failed to use one so, like many of you, I have been planning and plotting potential possibilities (I love alliteration) for the plethora of double games which will take place in GW 34 and 37. I am debating if the proper course of action is to deploy the wildcard during GW 33 and the bench boost for GW 34 or to wait until nearly the end of the season for GW 37 tactics.

This led me to wonder, how many wildcards have our top managers used? I was quite surprised to see that 7 out of the 10 had used both wildcards. Apparently, their strategies will not include a wildcard. (Players in positions 3, 5 and 8 are the ones with an available wildcard).

What was another interesting observation for GW 31?

An interesting observation this week was the fact that 9 out of 10 managers possess Sergio Aguero. Why? This may sound cruel and I may jinx myself here but I wonder if Aguero will pan out for the remaining part of the season as Manchester City seems to be focused perhaps on other priorities (Champions League)? With a hefty £13.6 price tag and an ownership rate of 34.2%, he isn’t much of a differential and when compared to Vardy, he is still 57 points behind. Granted, his next 2 matches are against Bournemouth and West Brom and he does have DGW 34 so perhaps some folks can afford to have him onboard. Any thoughts here?

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 31?

Goalkeepers: This week was rather interesting as our top managers selected 7 different goalkeepers. Butland was the most popular pick coming in at 30% ownership while Hennessey had 20% ownership and Forster, Gomes, Hart, Schmeichel and Courtois each came in with 10%.

Defenders: As usual, we saw a plethora of defenders played by the top ten; a total of 13 different players. Alderweireld was the most popular picks as 9 of the 10 managers selected him. Huth came in at 40% ownership while Williams and Bellerin each had 30%. Sagna and Fuchs had a 20% ownership rate while the remaining defenders all came in with 10% ownership: Koscielny, Monreal, Dann, Coleman, Clyne, Nyom and Daniels.

Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had only 9 different picks. 90% of managers selected Mahrez and Alli followed by Payet and Ozil with 60%, Sigurdsson with 50%, Arnautovic with 40% and Eriksen, Willian and Fabregas each with 10%.

Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of only 5 picks among the top managers. 100% had Kane and 100% of our top managers selected Kane as this week’s captain. 90% had Aguero, 70% had Vardy, and 10% had Rondon and Berahino.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 31 were Alderweireld, Alli, Payet, Mahrez, Ozil, Sigurdsson, Vardy, Kane and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:

* The average score for Gameweek 31 among the top 10 was 82.6 points which was an impressive 26.6 points above average for the week.

* The average team/club value was £107.9 with £111 being the most expensive team and £104.8 being the cheapest team.

* Most of the leaders have deployed all their chips.

* England represented only 20% the leader board with the following countries being the following: Australia (currently in the lead), Sweden, Canada, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Thailand, Ireland, Malaysia and Scotland.

* Two of our leaders have been in the top 10 for over 17 weeks!

Hope this was useful!

Best of luck in Gameweek 32!

It’s good to see how out FF_gods are doing. Thank you @bekachan now back to the salt mines for the rest of us. WC33BB34 vs. WC33TC34 vs. WC36BB37 vs. WC36TC37 just four simple choices really for those who still have their CHIPS. The skill is to make sure you don’t miss out on Everton’s extra DGW and account for those teams who miss a few weeks as well. Cheers

PunkDragon – you are missing a very distinct possibility there, which consist on building a squad with as much doublers as you can for DGW34 (without WC) then BB on DGW34 and play your WC on DGW37 itself, spreading any other remaining chips on the single gws ahead.
It’s getting clearer by the minute that WC33+BB34 means a team full of odd choices that you simply wouldn’t make if it weren’t for the double (choices that you’ll need to bear with for the remaining gws) while ditching important assets in the process.
Really tricky this one. Hopefully the international break and that al important GW32 will give us some signs of which is the best course of action.

Thanks DMC. Actually I had considered that option as well since BB provides a good way to negate our ML leaders paying their WCs as well. I am definitely going to thnk about thst now since the ppl who are building up to field 9-10 DGW players would definitely have some good players sitting on their bench. Also … foolhardy or not, I’ve bought my players early this week since a lot of DGW wildcarders and others would be buying the usual players from the better DGW teams especially Arsenal Liverpool MancIty and ManUnited. Thanks and cheers again

    DMC says:

Interesting one Beka. I see the must haves would have involved an AOA to be fielded. So many great options is attack this year.

    DMC says:

Vardy’s stats are really incredible. Last season he got amazing 12 assists but “just” 5 goals. Now he’s already on 8 assists but has 19 goals! Impressive.

    DMC says:

I hear you on Aguero Beka, it seems that a good-ish DGW34 squad would suggest no Kun. Over to Pancho and Inittowinti! smile

      Snookie Bear says:

The thing to fear about Aguero he can score a hat trick and assist one or two in next game after blanking twice, if you have him in your team just keep him. His explosiveness is second to none and with Kdb returning I hope City can fight back and get some form

      • DMC says:

I do agree on that snookie, which is why WC33+BB34 does not sound so appealing.
If you have him and will keep him for DGW34 there’s every chance that the other 14 players are not that good as whole to justify depleting your squad. Just a thought though, I’ve seen a few DGW34 interesting squads out there. But they all double on Pool at the back which will now surely need a reassessment. Open to all possibilities here.

        • Silvers says:

I disagree DMC I will play my WC wk 33 & BB WK 34 these will be my choices
          GK MU / Cry
Def Ars / Wat / Liv / Wba / New
Mid City / Ars / whu / Liv / Lei Mahrez to good to let go to much cash tired up
Fwd City / Mu / Eve

I cant see much wrong with this going fwd drop Eve / Mu fwd wk 35 have 2 FT put in Sou / Lei 10 players to field GW 35
also this would leave me with 6 DGW players in GW 37 with at least 2 more to come in.

I also thk GW 34 is the better option good teams playing lesser teams thoughts please. 😉

        • DMC says:

Cheers Silvers – good planning there. Let’s see those names behind the teams though and then we can discuss it.

        • Silvers says:

          No Problem DMC
Henn if he is 1st choice / DDG
Bell / Moerno if fit / Nyom / Jan / Olsson trying to find an alt or more cash
          Silva / Ozil / Payet / Firmino / Mahrez
          Kun / Luk / Martial
          Lets have it

        • Silvers says:

          Sorry meant to say Coutinho

        • DMC says:

Well, what can I say silvers. Midfield and attack are brutal, if all fit. Defense looks weak. The question is, will it perform better than a BB team with 8/10 doublers + let’s say Kane, Mahrez, Alli, Vardy, Aldo that keeps its WC for 37? Only time will tell I guess. And time we’ll have to reassess all this after the IB.

        • PunkDragon says:

I like Sliver’s team for GW33, but really can’t have any say until we know what you’ve got. Seems you are decided on going with WC33BB34. It will be interesting to see how you maneuver the Everton DGW although it’s just another transfer away (you’ll have two) and Everton’s defense is not really that solid. Lots to consider for me.

        • Silvers says:

cheers guys which ever way we go its a risk still feel it could be the right way to go I will have another look smile

        • KI says:

          Silvers,

A late agreement with DMC. Captures my dilemma perfectly. The cash may not be available, but I’ve currently got
Dawson/Cresswell/Janmaat/Sagna/Rojo in mind for a back line-if I’m so rash as to move early. Still watching.

        • Silvers says:

Hey Ki this is a real tough call your back line looks good there but we have to hang in there.

        • ChrisOllie25 says:

A lot of you dropping Kane, that’s risky. He can outscore most DGW srikers imo
