Fantasy Premier League Intro 2018/19

Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Intro 2018/19. As most of you are aware, FPL has been live for a couple of weeks now, but due to England’s surprising progress to the semi-finals and many of you playing both the Fantasy World Cup game and our very own Predictions Competition we have delayed any FPL articles until today. It’s full speed ahead now though as we look forward to the start of the season which kicks off on Friday 10th August.

If you’ve not been with us over the summer then we hope you feel refreshed and renewed and enjoyed some fantasy-free time. We extend a particular welcome to our new friends who have migrated over from Fantasy Football First – we hope you feel welcome and at home with us.

The purpose of this article is kick off FPL but also to provide you with all the necessary links that you will need…

FPL LEAGUES
First things first and some housekeeping – please be sure to join the main FF247 league here (autojoin link) League Code: 1581-751

There is a ‘Regulars’ league too but for access to this you need to contact Elle via elleffcee@gmail.com
This one is specifically for those who join in on the site conversation on a daily / weekly basis. Please respect that criteria before applying and wasting Elle’s time and ours.

FPL RULES
The rules for the game are simply as per last season – you have two wildcards to use, one in the first half of the season only and one to use in the second half of the season only. The other chips also remain the same – namely Triple Captain, Bench Boost and Free Hit.

So really it’s just time to start building your team if you haven’t already. No doubt the tinkering will continue right up until the GW1 deadline as players impress or not as the case may be, in preseason friendlies.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES
Usually we run an article and ask people to get involved and cover the friendlies with any info they can gather. And it’s usually fun but in all honesty it’s usually also a bit messy and difficult to refer back to. This season we have one link that you will need need for all such info, courtesy of Mito –

FPL Pre-Season Info

Here you will find all the pre-season info you could ever wish for in one place – line-ups, scorers, assists, match info, sarcastic comments….

FPL FIXTURE TRACKER

FIXTURE TRACKER 2018/19

It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.

And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.

So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!

    Hey everyone. New poster.

The world cup was great but time again to focus on fpl. Son has been called up by south Korea for the Asian games. Spurs don’t have to release him but if they do he doesn’t have to do his compulsory service in the South Korean army in 2020. One situation to keep an eye on with kane likely rested llorente is only 6 mil.

    Mr Bean says:

    Hello all.

It’s somewhat good to be back to English FPL again.

Normally I thoroughly enjoy the first month of picking my initial team (and hate the following 10 months of the season) but am very much struggling to come up with a first draft at the moment.

Hoping pre-season sheds some light on things – huge thanks Mito for your document, guessing you haven’t got much else to do this summer? 😀

    Jamie Mc says:

First draft had Salah and a lot of crap players to accommodate him.

Second draft has no Salah and looks so much better.

Looking forward to seeing a few RMT’s to see how people have fitted Salah into their team.

Is Salah at £13m still a must have?

If you go without him and he starts strong you will regret not having him.

      AT says:

All the teams without the biggest players look good on paper. Trying not to get sucked into creating a ’rounded’ team this year. Will. See how that goes 😆

    • 15.3

Can work either way Jamie. There is no guarantee he gets off to a flying start. Even if he scores, as long as he is not bringing in huge hauls you can get away with not having him if you invest well. Still scary though, in particular with their early fixtures. smile

      • Jamie Mc says:

He didn’t look too fit at the World Cup but should be fully healed by the time the season starts.

I don’t want too many players from Cardiff, Fulham, Wolves to accommodate him.

        Jamie

        • Yeah, that is always the thing. It’s Salah and who knows what player or two vs two or thee solid players. If Salah is Salah and you nail a player like the Gross from last season with your cheapie then you are laughing, but if you get Salah and he is good, but not spectacular and your cheapie is crap, well that doesn’t work. Having said that, it is complicated to get the other ones right also, more money to spend from not having Salah doesn’t always lead to good decisions on what to do with that money.

Could lead to the arse kicking all those who sold Kane last year took. :hippo:

    AnttL says:

hey guys, how are we all?. glad the WC is over and we can get down to business now. Who are your must haves this season?.

      Jamie Mc says:

Got Sane, Mayrez, Erikson, Bobby, PEA, Azpi and Robertson in my team at the moment.

      Jamie

    • 16.2

No idea, but so far I have Azpi and Sane in my head for Gw1, the rest I have to figure out. Not saying those are must haves for the season, but those two seem to be the only two I don’t have doubts on (be it because of being rested or fpl price) come Gw1.

      • AnttL says:

Would you rather not Mahrez l?.

        • Not sure, I might have both. I was telling someone yesterday about City’s fixtures early on. After Arsenal they play the 3 promoted teams from last season and this season in their next 6. Only problem I have with City attacking talent is how the minutes will be distributed. That won’t be easy to decipher once all their players from the WC are in contention to start.

        • Matt says:

Hey Mito. You not worried about Sane’s game time? I’m really looking at him or KDB with the German just edging it due to that 0.5 mil but worried he isn’t nailed. What do you think?

    Chipster says:

    Hey Cookie

Thanks for the intro article. Looking forward to reading more like this in the run up to the season kick-off smile

I’ve already drafted my teams (I’m doing 4 again this season; Main, B Team, My Rules (newbies) and Ghosts). Be good to get some RMTs on what I have so far, so let’s kickoff with the Ghosts.

This team is set and forget for the entire season, with no changes of any kind allowed – i.e. no capo or formation changes (except what happens automatically) and certainly no transfers, wildcards or chips!

KDB is a slight doubt for GW1, but seems to be the most nailed City mid for the entire season, hence why I’ve chosen him anyway. I could get Sane instead and then use the extra £0.5M to upgrade Ederson to DDG (but was disgusted with his performance at the World Cup, so he feels over-valued at £6.0M this season).

    What do people think?

      Guy Sanchez says:

@chipster, that looks good – and completely unlike anything I’ve assembled for myself thus far. I need to go back to the drawing board. I like Auba up front. I need to find my one start and build out. I just haven’t landed on that star yet.

      • Chipster says:

Thanks Guy. My strategy for this team is different to my others, because it has to be ‘set and forget’. For example, I’d prefer Kane to Eriksen, but Kane might need recovery time from WC (and has the August curse!), so Eriksen seems the better ‘season long’ pick. Similarly, I’d prefer Kun to KDB initially, but I can’t then swap Kun out, so have ‘compromised’ on KDB instead.

It can be quite overwhelming having a blank page to populate. You need to find one or two must-haves, and then work around those. Question 1 for everybody building a team this season is: Salah or no Salah? smile

    Guy Sanchez says:

Good morning all (or evening depending on where you are).

Personally, last year was one of my worst FPL years to date, just couldn’t get right. This year, I’m back to 100% focus.

And with that being said, I can’t draft a starting XI to save my life right now. Nothing looks right, and many of you are having the same problem I see. This first team might come down to the last minute with a bottle of rye whisky and some prayer beads for me.

      Kralin says:

My draft is getting nowhere fast at the moment, I’m just keeping Salah and Ederson (and Azpi, Sane and Robertson) in situ, and just playing around. There are some nice 4.5 defenders out there – Cedric, Daniels and Tomkins spring to mind. There are some well-priced mids from Arsenal and Everton.

One advantage we have this season is the transfer deadline will pass before the GW1 deadline.

      • hammerfan_lm says:

        dont forget Arnie Kralin!!!

        • Kralin says:

I’ll have a think about Arnie/Austin and Zaha if I’m unable to accommodate Firmino. The Jimenez guy from Wolves interests me vaguely, though I’m not overly keen on punting there (newly promoted) unless it’s for the bench.

        • hammerfan_lm says:

Or Felipe Anderson. You know it makes sense.
