Fantasy Premier League Intro 2018/19

Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Intro 2018/19. As most of you are aware, FPL has been live for a couple of weeks now, but due to England’s surprising progress to the semi-finals and many of you playing both the Fantasy World Cup game and our very own Predictions Competition we have delayed any FPL articles until today. It’s full speed ahead now though as we look forward to the start of the season which kicks off on Friday 10th August.

If you’ve not been with us over the summer then we hope you feel refreshed and renewed and enjoyed some fantasy-free time. We extend a particular welcome to our new friends who have migrated over from Fantasy Football First – we hope you feel welcome and at home with us.

The purpose of this article is kick off FPL but also to provide you with all the necessary links that you will need…

FPL LEAGUES
First things first and some housekeeping – please be sure to join the main FF247 league here (autojoin link) League Code: 1581-751

There is a ‘Regulars’ league too but for access to this you need to contact Elle via elleffcee@gmail.com
This one is specifically for those who join in on the site conversation on a daily / weekly basis. Please respect that criteria before applying and wasting Elle’s time and ours.

FPL RULES
The rules for the game are simply as per last season – you have two wildcards to use, one in the first half of the season only and one to use in the second half of the season only. The other chips also remain the same – namely Triple Captain, Bench Boost and Free Hit.

So really it’s just time to start building your team if you haven’t already. No doubt the tinkering will continue right up until the GW1 deadline as players impress or not as the case may be, in preseason friendlies.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES
Usually we run an article and ask people to get involved and cover the friendlies with any info they can gather. And it’s usually fun but in all honesty it’s usually also a bit messy and difficult to refer back to. This season we have one link that you will need need for all such info, courtesy of Mito –

FPL Pre-Season Info

Here you will find all the pre-season info you could ever wish for in one place – line-ups, scorers, assists, match info, sarcastic comments….

FPL FIXTURE TRACKER

FIXTURE TRACKER 2018/19

It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.

And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.

So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!

    Tekno-kun says:

Ey lads, how about a real early RMT? 4-3-3 early on (3-4-3 for GW1). Always WC early.

      Matt says:

Hey Tekkers, how are you mate?

If you are WCing early it’s not a bad team, Kun is a bit of a worry with Jesus but City have brilliant fixtures. I would also have a bit of uncertainty over Tosun and if he’s going to grab points. The last bit I would change is Pope. You would think Heaton comes back into the starting XI but that does feel like a smack in the mouth to Pope. Doubt that matters to Dyche though so Pope probably won’t play

      • Tekno-kun says:

Hiya Matt, doing fine, how you doing lad???

Aguero is fine for the first few GWs, could easily become Auba eventually. Might change Silva also as I’d expect him to get rotated when the CL starts. Everton have great fixtures, so I’d rather have Tosun than Arnie or Zaha (same price class). Pope and Heaton are the same price, no problem changing as pre-season shows who is preferred.

        • Matt says:

That’s great to hear mate. I’m doing good thanks.

Yeah PEA or Kun are two I am thinking will be in my final draft.
I do like Evertons fixtures so that could really work out mate.
I didn’t realise Heaton and Pope were same price so that’s an easy remedy then.

      • AnttL says:

Tosun is a really good shout, and I’m not just saying that because I support Everton. We have really good fixtures to begin with, and I really believe he will grab a good few goals this season.

      Chipster says:

Hi Tekno-kun. I really like this team and how balanced it feels. My (minor) observations are:
      1) No Salah (presumably due to price) but you have a Mane and Firmino double up (which costs more than Salah). Have you tried Mane > Salah and seeing who you can afford instead of Firmino? (Austin perhaps, if fit and starting).
      2) Love the Tosun pick, but personally I’m not sold on Everton’s defence. Consider swapping Seamus for Tomkins or Sakho (to capitalise on Palace’s kind opening fixtures) and use the liberated cash to bolster your Firmino replacement if you consider that option in 1) above.

      • Oh Chips, where did you find that enthusiasm about the upcoming season? I feel overdosed on football after the World Cup. I am even finding it hard to set up my MLS team for Wednesday. I guess, everything will change in a couple of days 😆

      • Tekno-kun says:

        Cheers Chipster and Ant.

Chip, I personally consider Mane and Firmino to be better value than Salah. I won’t be bringing in Salah unless he really goes off

        • Smash says:

I don’t like the look of Mane this year. He was pulled off early a lot last Year and I can see this being more the case now Shaqiri is there now

Ah, FPL. Fantasy the way it’s meant to be played!

    Matt says:

So what formation are people leaning towards this season? The ever popular 3-4-3 or 3-5-2? Also anybody have any must haves earmarked yet?

    • 21.1
      Tekno-kun says:

4-3-3 for me until the budget mids and strikers show themselves. Would rather have a 5.5 – 6.0 fullback from a good team than take a chance on a similarly priced mid from a mediocre team! City players are must haves early on I think, given the fixtures. Now which players to get on the other hand…

      • Matt says:

Yeah I was considering going with a premium defence and putting a good bit of money at the back. I’m thinking Sane or KDB. Don’t think I’ll touch their defence yet since most of it played in the WC semis.

        • Tekno-kun says:

Mahrez will take part of City’s preseason from the beginning so he should be nailed on initially until the rest of the squad is up and kicking also, could be a good bet.

        • Matt says:

You could be right Tekkers. I’ll keep an eye on preseason friendlies and see what happens.

        • secretzorro says:

I read somewhere that KDB has a month off after WC, so Mahrez is good idea for 1st couple of GWs

    • 21.2
      Mr Bean says:

Probably going to play 5-3-2 or 5-2-3 this year, especially if I pick Salah from the off for the reasons Tekno mentioned about semi-premium defenders over budget mids.

      • Matt says:

Yeah I don’t think I’ll go 5 at the back but 4 with a budget player to rotate could be the way I go.

      • Kralin says:

I ran a b-team 5-3-2 last year just out of curiosity. It ended up on 20k, so did ok, though I foolishly doubled on the Chelsea defence a lot with that team, which failed dismally most weeks.

The big advantage of a 5-3-2 or 5-2-3 is the number of premium players you can fit in. It’s very good for that. However the disadvange is once you’re committed to that formation it is extremely inflexible. I much prefered my normal 3-4-3, which I could adapt to 4-3-3 some weeks, 3-5-2 others, even a cheeky 5-3-2 over Xmas I think last year.

I don’t know what the line here is on b-teams, I know it’s considered heresy in some fantasy quarters, but I’d recommend a 5-3-2 as a b-team, not the main team.

      Smash says:

Looking at 3-5-2. Not a fan of the 3rd strikers

I have a nice hangover today smile
I’ll take my time before looking at FPL, I need a football break. I can just enjoy the feeling right now smile
    Champions du Monde!!

    Matt says:

Does anyone here know where I can find a definitive list of the best teams in the world historically?

  6. 24
    Cimon says:

Everton beat some team I’ve never heard of 22 0. That’s nuts. Kevin mirallas scored 5. What’s the deal with mirallas he’s not even listed. I used to like him for fpl. A proper greedy player
