Fantasy Premier League Intro 2018/19

Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Intro 2018/19. As most of you are aware, FPL has been live for a couple of weeks now, but due to England’s surprising progress to the semi-finals and many of you playing both the Fantasy World Cup game and our very own Predictions Competition we have delayed any FPL articles until today. It’s full speed ahead now though as we look forward to the start of the season which kicks off on Friday 10th August.

If you’ve not been with us over the summer then we hope you feel refreshed and renewed and enjoyed some fantasy-free time. We extend a particular welcome to our new friends who have migrated over from Fantasy Football First – we hope you feel welcome and at home with us.

The purpose of this article is kick off FPL but also to provide you with all the necessary links that you will need…

FPL LEAGUES
First things first and some housekeeping – please be sure to join the main FF247 league here (autojoin link) League Code: 1581-751

There is a ‘Regulars’ league too but for access to this you need to contact Elle via elleffcee@gmail.com
This one is specifically for those who join in on the site conversation on a daily / weekly basis. Please respect that criteria before applying and wasting Elle’s time and ours.

FPL RULES
The rules for the game are simply as per last season – you have two wildcards to use, one in the first half of the season only and one to use in the second half of the season only. The other chips also remain the same – namely Triple Captain, Bench Boost and Free Hit.

So really it’s just time to start building your team if you haven’t already. No doubt the tinkering will continue right up until the GW1 deadline as players impress or not as the case may be, in preseason friendlies.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES
Usually we run an article and ask people to get involved and cover the friendlies with any info they can gather. And it’s usually fun but in all honesty it’s usually also a bit messy and difficult to refer back to. This season we have one link that you will need need for all such info, courtesy of Mito –

FPL Pre-Season Info

Here you will find all the pre-season info you could ever wish for in one place – line-ups, scorers, assists, match info, sarcastic comments….

FIXTURE TRACKER 2018/19

It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.

And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.

So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!

    Morning all!

Hope all’s well. Hopefully be able to comment a bit more regularly this season. Had a good run in doubles last year but personal team has tanked past couple of years so lets try doing something different this year!

Are most people settled on an early wildcard after week 4? I keep drafting a 4-week team then wondering if I should play it safe and keep the WC in my pocket.

…Shaqiri as a v. cheap option into the Liverpool front 3 if Firmino is given a couple of weeks off?

      Hi webstar and welcome back.

I’ve never been a fan of the early wildcard. I use it when it feels natural or when an emergency comes up. I’ve never followed this path but others have so they may be able to convince you on this.

For all the football Firmino played (silly Tite), then I wouldn’t have any qualms about starting him in GW1 unless we here different from Liverpool themselves.

      • webstar87 says:

Yeah I’m usually more cautious and try to keep the wc for an emergency but the fact it needs to be used before second half of the season is the reason I thought use it early + the world cup returners.

What are your thoughts on Mane or do you think just play it safe with Salah?

Afternoon back to you. GMT +3 in the middle east.

A review, a panic and a pragmatic start to the draftings. Finally finished with this little lot. I dont have confidence with 5 at the back a la Cookie, but also I recognise a weak front line without Kane or Kun…..but…that is what is going to make this season more challenging than last…no obvious candidates.

    Always happy to receive feedback

Hey Analyst I quite like this team mate. A few issues though would be:
      1. TAA won’t play every game I fear. With Gomez and Clyne there for competition he will be rested
      2. Wood and Ward could be a rotation risk with Burnley possibly in Europe so keep an eye on that.
      3. Bedarnak might not play with Vestergaard coming in.

Trippier, Lukaku and maybe even Pickford could be doubt for gw1

Might be bias here but I’d look at Cairney over Neves. Think the Seri signing is going to see Tom pushed higher up the pitch and he’s so creative. I’m expecting more assists than last year this season.

      • Chipster says:

This is interesting to hear. I was quite set on Cairney until I saw Seri and have switched over to him. Is Seri worth the extra £0.5M over Cairney you reckon?

        • AK47 says:

My gut feel is Seri will be more box to box and let Cairney roam higher up the pitch with Mcdonald the enforcer. Cairney played more of a Modric role last season. Honestly won’t know till I see them play, we’ve got some bigger friendlies coming up which could be worth looking at.

Hey lads, great to be back!

I am also thinking of going for a 4-3-3 in the first few weeks, considering fixtures and players coming back from the WC, as I don’t see a lot of value in the 9+ mids, bar City, but they are subject to rotation and I already have Kun and Silva. Also no Spurs cover in this 3rd draft, but fixtures are not great and most of the usual starters will come late.

    What do you think?

      Rosco77 says:

I like it, TAA and Silva both carry significant rotation risk but I’m sure you’re already aware of that. The only major concern would be Fabregas but I’m sure we’ll get a clearer idea if he starts during pre-season! A solid start, im sure you’ll tweak it more in the coming weeks!

      • xaoc says:

Thanks, Rosco! I agree on TAA, but not as much on Silva. Not for the first few GWs at least. Who is likely to replace him, considering that KDB and Sterling will not start the season? After that, it is an easy switch to Pogba.

I just read that Chelsea have agreed terms for Golovin which places a huge question mark on Fabregas. So the natural switch is either Milivojevich or switch Stecklenburg to another 4M goalie, risking GW1 and get Wally. In any case, pre-season monitoring will be vital.

        • Rosco77 says:

Sounds like you have it we’ll planned out, I had him but currently on Mahrez, my tactics this year revolve around a spine of players who simply won’t move unless injured, so that’s why I moved Silva but he could be gold in the first few weeks!

    Hi everyone!

Hope everyone’s good and enjoyed the world cup! Been floating around the site for a couple of seasons and thought this will be the season I try to participate more.

Looking through the prices and people’s teams, this seems like a tough season!

Thoughts on Jorginho? Seems to be integral to Sarri’s plans and comes in at 5.0 Next popular pick at 5.0 is Neves from Wolves.

      Rosco77 says:

      Hi Surf!
Welcome and it will be nice to see you getting involved this season!

Prices always seem tough at the start until a few bargains rise to the surface!

I think Jorginho will be integral but I don’t see him as a great FPL asset. Sadly this game does not reward more defensive midfielders, so whilst £5.0 seems a bargain he’s price similarly to Kante and as such will likely have a similar points output.

However as a 5th mid he could be an option until a few better options show themselves. Tom Cairney could be a £5.0 player to keep an eye on. He is more attacking than both Jorginho and Neves, with him its more a case of how Fulham adapt to life in the top flight!

      • webstar87 says:

I never understood the love for 5m defensive midfielders. Stick a 4.5m one in and be done smile

        • Surf14 says:

That’s a valid point. Explains my plight with FPL the past couple of seasons. Sadly Mili got priced so high this season!

        • xaoc says:

+1. Especially if it is your 5th mid option. How often will you play him anyway and what is the chance that he pops up with an assist or a goal in this exact game. Just get a certain starter for 4.5 and use the extra 0.5 m on upgrading your goalie or one of the defenders.

I think the only reason Neves is so popular, is his hype from two seasons ago and people recognize the name. Check his stats – no real fpl value there.

Really nice midfield. King is an interesting choice up front – could be a great differential if he regains his form from two seasons back. Defence seems a bit light. Not sure about Coleman as the premium pick back there either.
