Fantasy World Cup Russia Introduction 2018

Welcome to Fantasy World Cup Russia Tips 2018. “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.” You know you want to! Stop fighting it. You know full well when you see that first World Cup RMT come in you’ll have that feeling, that sense, you just have to take part too. But you can’t, you swore you’d take a fantasy break, you needed a fantasy break. It’s been a long season and it takes its toll. But now you’re thinking you’ll maybe take a peek, just to see what it’s all about… We’ve had people swear blind upon completion of the FPL season that we will see them in August and not a moment before. And who can blame them? We’ve also had many people say this before and then ended up competing with them to the bitter end in summer tournaments!

The game is finally live anyway, and you can access it here – FIFA World Cup

The official FF247 league can be accessed HERE or the code itself is KHC1BUJ8

It may seem strange to see an ‘intro’ article at this point given as we have already started previewing the groups but we just got tired of waiting for them to get their act together! Just in case you did miss it though we have already looked at Group A here and Group B here. Groups C to H will follow in due course, at the rate of one a day between now and next Thursday.

The Rules
The rules themselves are accessible via THIS LINK but here’s our quick take away / need to know overview of them…

    • SCORING
The scoring itself is pretty much as per FPL.
    • FORMAT
The format is more UCL though. For those who aren’t familiar with this it basically means a tad more planning as you can sub players in before they have played to replace those that already have. A quick example would be to pick a Russian guy, let’s call him Vladimir, for arguments sake. And maybe an English guy, let’s call him Boris. Given as Vladimir plays on Day 1 you can put him in your X1 and see how he does, whilst placing Boris on your bench. If you like what you see from Vladimir then you can leave him in the team. If he has a stinker then you can simply activate manual subs and bring Boris in to replace him for his later game.
    • MANUAL SUBS / AUTO SUBS
If you activate a manual sub then your right to auto subs (as per FPL) disappears. You have the option to do either. Manual subs is your best bet we feel as you control who comes in and you get 4 more shots at getting it right, basically.
    • CAPTAIN
The Captain Armband works in much the same way as UCL and not FPL. You may change your captain after each round (if he was not sent off) with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play.
    • TRANSFERS
      Before the game begins: UNLIMITED
Between the group stages: 1 per round
      Before the quarter-finals: 3 transfers
      Before the semis: 5 transfers
      Before the final: 5 transfers
    • WILDCARD
You get 1 wildcard and you can play it anytime you like prior to the start of a round.
    • CHIPS
There are chips as per FPL, sort of. Given the main sponsor we are just surprised they haven’t called them fries.

MAXIMUM CAPTAIN
You can play this once and it basically means that whoever your highest scoring player is in that particular round gets your armband.

BENCH BOOST
Pretty much just as per FPL – you get all 15 playing in that round.

Mat Ryan – Australia first choice goalkeeper at 4.5M

As far as South Americans go, possible value defenders
    Fabra (Colombia) is 5.0, starts
    Tagliafico (Argentina) 5.0, starts
Fagner (Brazil) 5.0 in a battle with Danilo, if declared the starter, I get him
Varela (Uruguay) 4.5 should start, but has a slight injury right now (monitor)
Advincula (Peru) 4.5, starts, but not in the easiest group.

    Mids
Uribe (Colombia) 5.5, starts, will get forward CM/winger
Cueva (Peru) 6.0, starts, takes pens and plays cam, solid player
Nandez (Uruguay) 5.0, starts, box to box mid.
Sanchez (Colombia) 4.5, starts, but will only give you minutes, sits really deep
Casemiro (Brazil) 5.5, starts, but similar to Sanchez, sits really deep, however he is capable of scoring or assisting on occassion.

    Forwards
Guerrero 7.5 (Peru) starts, a menace in the air and his team looks for him a lot, when they score expect him involved.
Arrascaeta 5.5 (Uruguay), should be a mid, too bad he got placed here. But if you need a cheapie, he will have some indirect set pieces & might play cam.

Good stuff Mito. Few queries/comments for our South American correspondent:
      – As Acuna lost his place in Argentina as the left wing back in their 3-5-2?
      – I have Guerrero at the moment. He scores when he wants and their group opponents aren’t great in defence
      – Arrascaeta, damn! At that price he’d be a shoe in if classes as a mid.

      • I will give you my likely xi for Argentina, but it seems to be changing every day according to the Argentinian press and with them having cancelled their last friendly it is going to be hard to guess.

Places to watch where it is harder to figure out the starter, Higuaín or Kun, Biglia or Masche, Lo Celso or Meza and Fazio or Rojo. Acuña is never mentioned as a possible starter.
