Fantasy World Cup Russia Introduction 2018
Welcome to Fantasy World Cup Russia Tips 2018. “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.” You know you want to! Stop fighting it. You know full well when you see that first World Cup RMT come in you’ll have that feeling, that sense, you just have to take part too. But you can’t, you swore you’d take a fantasy break, you needed a fantasy break. It’s been a long season and it takes its toll. But now you’re thinking you’ll maybe take a peek, just to see what it’s all about… We’ve had people swear blind upon completion of the FPL season that we will see them in August and not a moment before. And who can blame them? We’ve also had many people say this before and then ended up competing with them to the bitter end in summer tournaments!

It may seem strange to see an ‘intro’ article at this point given as we have already started previewing the groups but we just got tired of waiting for them to get their act together! Just in case you did miss it though we have already looked at Group A here and Group B here. Groups C to H will follow in due course, at the rate of one a day between now and next Thursday.
The Rules
The rules themselves are accessible via THIS LINK but here’s our quick take away / need to know overview of them…

The scoring itself is pretty much as per FPL.

- FORMAT
The format is more UCL though. For those who aren’t familiar with this it basically means a tad more planning as you can sub players in before they have played to replace those that already have. A quick example would be to pick a Russian guy, let’s call him Vladimir, for arguments sake. And maybe an English guy, let’s call him Boris. Given as Vladimir plays on Day 1 you can put him in your X1 and see how he does, whilst placing Boris on your bench. If you like what you see from Vladimir then you can leave him in the team. If he has a stinker then you can simply activate manual subs and bring Boris in to replace him for his later game.

- MANUAL SUBS / AUTO SUBS
If you activate a manual sub then your right to auto subs (as per FPL) disappears. You have the option to do either. Manual subs is your best bet we feel as you control who comes in and you get 4 more shots at getting it right, basically.

- CAPTAIN
The Captain Armband works in much the same way as UCL and not FPL. You may change your captain after each round (if he was not sent off) with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play.

Before the game begins: UNLIMITED
Between the group stages: 1 per round
Before the quarter-finals: 3 transfers
Before the semis: 5 transfers
Before the final: 5 transfers

You get 1 wildcard and you can play it anytime you like prior to the start of a round.

There are chips as per FPL, sort of. Given the main sponsor we are just surprised they haven’t called them fries.

MAXIMUM CAPTAIN
You can play this once and it basically means that whoever your highest scoring player is in that particular round gets your armband.
BENCH BOOST
Pretty much just as per FPL – you get all 15 playing in that round.

Makes me re-think my Navas plan, he was supposed to be a cleanie magnet, but even England put two past him… :what: 😀
Portugal 3 – 0 Algeria
Goals: Guedes (2), Fernandes
Guedes actualy made a very good case for himself tonight (would be for Andre Silva). Bruno Fernandes too and that’s one I’d buy in a blink of eye if I was assured he stars.
7.0 is a very appealing price.
Iceland 2 – 2 Ghana
Goals: Finnbogason, Arnason
Who has D? Is Gudmunsson not nailed?
Pancho. And group D may be out of sync now as he forgot to mention that he was on holiday!
Who goes on vacation BEFORE the WC instead of DURING it!!??

Ah yes! I see him now. Great. There’s another one in the squad at 7.0 but Johann at 6.0 could be a good shout. Tough opposition though.

yeah a decent deal you would think – certainly better than what they had. Saying that he couldn’t even get in the West Brom side towards the end of the season!!
I think that is a really good bit of business. In today’s game, I certainly would prefer he and Maguire to Morgan and Huth (despite their medals!).
Lazy WC Fantasy question…..can you change your captain each day? And if so can you keep the previous armband wearer in your team or do you have to sub him out?

No, captain is set at the start of the Round and is unable to be changed.

I think you only lose the extra points, but you can keep him in your XI, which would make sense based on how they did it 4 years ago.

The bad news is that once you change anything no auto sub will be made.
That’s no problem as all active managers watch the games every day and are ready to make subs everyday (or whenever they have planned them) regardless…
RMT please! Think I’m quite happy about my premium players, it’s now just the 5.0/5.5 that will give me a headache!

Is Carrasco nailed? Is he any good? I see he is a popular pick…..
I think he’s nailed and at 6.5m he is a good shout in my opinion, he could score or assist as well as the 10m players in Belgium squad (Haz and Kaku) so I don’t see why he’s not worth the price!
Hey Zed, does Meunier basically play the same position? Just wondering, because I have seen it said the both are wingbacks but Meunier is cheaper and better yet, classified as a defender.
Basically yes, I currently have both! Carasco may go the journey but Meunier stays, his stats in qualifying were very good ( I’ve exapnded on it in my Group G article)

Yeah, I have them both like Rosco but obviously if you only fancy one then Meunier is even better as a defender, they both are wingers!
@Padster, I usually limit myself to commenting on South Americans and Spain because I basically have watched zero qualifying games from any other area, other than the occasional Spain game.
Gimenez is the same price as Godin and Caceres, I think I prefer to have one of those two over Gimenez since you are not saving money. I also have Suarez and Neymar in my first draft, so obviously I agree there, Isco is fantastic, only Spanish players I rather have are Silva (unfortunately classified as a forward) or Asensio, but Marco is not assured minutes but if he was, he be straight in at his price. In fact I am so distraught he is not likely in the XI, I have given him a spot in my xi for now, even though I know I will probably have to remove him before the WC starts.
Coutinho will do well, but he might have to play from a CM spot and not the winger role many expect for him. He is not a great winger for Brazil and Willian seems to do better than him from that spot, but if Phillipe is moved to CM he is still very good and I actually think he plays better there. Miranda seems like the safest CB to have, but in these last couple of days there are some rumblings that he could be in jeopardy. Personally, I think Tite keeps him in with Silva.
Thanks Mito! I would have preferred Silva over Isco as a midfielder, but like Sterling i think making them forwards has pretty much taken them out of the game for me! It was a toss-up between Godin and Gimenez for me, but i keep getting images of Godin seeing red and i think Gimenez scored last time out swung it, i could still change that one before deadline, I will keep an eye out for the Miranda situation if there is doubt i will just replace him with another Brazilian, Thanks again and good luck!
