Don’t mention the ‘C’ word
We may have finally have caught a break. We may well have caught more than that, but more on that later!
We have had some horrible luck this season. But we won’t bemoan that as many have had horrible luck this year in general. Both inside, and more pertinently outside, of FPL. Your author himself managed to buy both Siggy and Son this week, and you can’t get much worse luck than that! In FPL that is. One of our own committee tested positive for the ‘C’ word this week and so we wish him and his family well. Puts things into perspective. He seems well though and he has been warned that if he intends to die then we require 30 days notice in writing.
Everything that could have gone against us this season pretty much has so far. But for once our transfers from last week look inspired. Our new guy Dallas got us 12 points (replacing a Dann zero) and Bruno finally came in for us, albeit with just an assist, but he replaced a Covid ‘victim’ (he didn’t die either) in KdB. We’d say ‘happy days’, but they really aren’t.
Elsewhere McCarthy got us 9, Bamford 8, Chilwell 5 and it was diminishing returns after that.
We ended up on 57 points which meant a green arrow and a rank rise of over 400k back up to 1.7m. We never thought we would take that sort of rank as a positive. But we’ll take any positive we can right now. Oh, hang on… not any….

Debating a chip strategy wasn’t quite how I envisaged spending New Years Eve, but that I did, and let me tell you it’s 5 hours I’ll never get back. And to make matters worse it was 5 hours spent going around in one massive circle.
Without boring the pants off you all too, we basically began with holding the transfer, debated using it for our BGW18/DGW19 strategy, had new 18 & 19 fixtures announced about half way through the debate, went full circle twice and ended up back where we began.
The new fixtures which have been added to both GW’s (Burnley vs Man Utd in 18 & Man City v Aston Villa in 19) were definitely worth the pause for thought but ultimately they alone were not enough to deter us from our strategy. For now, anyway. The addition of the 18 one means that we could in theory not play the FH in that one and just go in with about 9 players. The addition of the 19 one saved Grealish’s bacon. And possibly presented us with a Man City issue, as in a lack of one.
All in all we felt it was best to simply sit tight and see what happens from here on in.

Captain – Kane
Despite a couple of votes for Bruno, Kane came out on top, with the quote ‘Kane feels like fun vs Leeds’ probably summing up our decision.

Been following the FF247 site team for many years now and I have to say they have been so so unlucky this season with transfers, nothing they decided on was bad decisions but its almost like they have been cursed. It was 2020 so lets put it down to that haha. The only way is up!

I think I would prefer where you could be next week with 2 free transfers and the idea that you may not need your FH in it.
Assuming Taylor is out so Coufal will come in. I’d start Dallas over KWP, neither are going to keep a CS, but Dallas might get some attacking returns.

I dont want to burn 1FT but at the same time not sure what to do with it. Or Cancelo to Dias? Captain choice okay?
I have same cap and vice as you currently. Feel this week, there’s many options for captaincy so it’s hard to be sure. Don’t see anything obvious to change. Could do Cancelo to Dias as you mentioned given there’s some doubt about whether Cancelo is one of the players out with covid.
Probably Cancelo to someone as it appears he is one of the ‘5’.
I would just keep Cancelo, even if he has covid he’ll be back for GW18 surely (unless he gets bad symptoms which is rather unlikely I’d say)…
I’d be wary of moving one City defender to another considering the upheaval there just now.

I genuinely don’t know what to do with my transfers now. With the addition of Burnley- MU in GW18 and MC – Villa in GW19, my chip strategy is gone though the window.
Options:
1) Limp off GW18 and field 8-9 players and get a strong starting XI for GW19 (without using any chips);
2) Limp off GW18 and FH/BB in GW19;
3) Build for GW19, FH in GW18 and TC/BB in GW19;
4) Build for GW19, FH in GW18 and no chip in GW19.
What would you do?

It depends on whether you feel the 2-3 transfers you can make will improve your team overall though, if not then 3.
Cheers, Dane! I can field 9 players in GW18 (if they all play and there are no postponements) and get Bamford and KDB instead of Kane and Podence for GW19 and field 10 DGW players + Son.
That seem quite good to be honest. Not something to lose a FH chip over I think.
The loss of Kane is the tricky part I suppose…
Gents, I felt I was set on FH18 but with the moved games I’m less confident now.
What would you recommend for this here lot?

I would prioritise getting in some Manchester City. Maybe not today, but certainly for next week (if NOT FHing) or GW19.

Similar boat to me Dane. Contemplating for GW19 something like Son and Kane to KDB and Ings. Spurs fixtures go off a bit from GW20, but not sure it’s a good plan.
They have a decent fixture though, haven’t decided on whether both should go… but GP points out, it’s difficult to see them both staying
