Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Welcome to a special edition of Bore Off! Usually we only run these during the International breaks, but this time we decided to throw one in since we had a few extra days between GW’s. You will notice a slightly different format as there are nowhere near as many questions and we have asked our guys to expand a bit more than usual on the six they did get. This GABO is focused on the blank and double game-weeks to come. Obviously, we can only talk so much without knowing what teams will actually be a part of the actual doubles and blanks and as we see the FA Cup start to dwindle down teams we will address what players/teams and possible strategies you should be considering, but that will come in due time.

Now for a quick intro of our two guests.
In charge of group gathering coordination, captaincy article writer and overall good guy, please give a warm welcome to Rosco, but not too warm as he gets comfortable and falls asleep. Rosco enjoys spending his free time ruining his FPL team and playing with his dogs Mike and Ashley. We assume he is married, but he really only talks about his dogs, so not sure on that.

Our second man is site favourite, Smash. Always quick to help with average advice. He naturally saves all the good moves for himself, that is why he is ranked inside the top 20k and all the people he helps are outside 100k. Smash has taken time from his busy holidaying schedule and offered to contribute, even if he does have to use dodgy hotel wifi. What a guy!!

Let’s get on with it and we hope you enjoy.

And of course give a follow to the one and only, GABO hall of famer, Monsieur Olivier Giroud.

Good to read your cogitations, S&R – I was half-dreading the prospect of a DGW in 25* as my planning so far has been sketchy, to say the least.

    * still theoretically possible**
    ** now 100% certain

I did Alonso to Alderweireld back in game week 20, 1 cs in four games isn’t cutting it at his price. Dose Koscielny look set back for starting? .6 less would need to bench him in gw 25 (city) but sweet the 3 after.

Or hold put to see if 25 is a dgw and go for Luiz . Dont see it worth it for his price unless he gets both games

Time to sell or at least lining up to sell Wolves defensive assets? Cs potential seems low. Or does Doherty attacking potential give him the nod?

Ive got Doherty and Bennett so thinking the same. I’ve held off due to other transfer priorities plus there’s no real stand out candidates at 4.8/5.0m

They have got 6 reasonable games coming up so I will keep Jonny for those!

Would keep Jonny or Bennett (I own the former), but sell Doherty. Simply not worth that money when you can get any number of defenders at that price:

Shaw, TAA, Emerson (if he stays in ahead of Alonso) off the top of my head

      • gkw says:

But Doherty isn’t a defender. He’s a winger who’s classified by FPL as a defender. You don’t get many of those at his price.

        • elcfc says:

He is attacking, sure, BUT if you want him because he is a winger, sell him – one assist in six isn’t good enough.

If you have him because he is a defender, sell him – zero clean sheets in six isn’t good enough.

However you view him, he has 11 points in six weeks.

He costs 5.2m. For that price or cheaper, Danilo has 21 points in two weeks, Zouma has 18 points in two weeks, Lindelof has 15 in three weeks, Shaw has 13 in three weeks despite not playing in one of them through illness, TAA has 20 in five despite also missing one through injury.

My point is, I am not sure what the love for Doherty is. A quarter of players have him, yet he has consistently provided little points.

I would go for Jonny if you want a Wolves full-back, and spend the savings elsewhere!

Lots of better options IMO mate!

        • Kruzcampo says:

          Even Jonny plays wingback .

    Hi all!
Now that DGW 25 is confirmed. How do you guys plan to use your chips?
I’ve not used any of them, and still have the WC.
Considering using the free hit chip for GW 25 as I’ve only got Sané from those teams.
Silly move or not? Felt like I saved the chips for too long last season.

I won’t use any chips for gw25 .I think they will be better options later

      elcfc says:

      I’m not against early chips.

Last season I used wildcard around GW28ish, immediately bumped me up from around 60k to 20k, and ended up finishing 800th.

I like going early (as an actor said to a bishop…), as then you have weeks and weeks to reap the benefits of having the squad you want, and if you pick right and your players go up in value, those who wildcard 5-10 weeks later simply cannot afford your team!

Only thing is earlier chips mean planning all your moves from that point onwards well in advance.

I used wildcard last week, so will see if it works out again this season! Did get an immediate bump again though, from around 30k to 12k.

The more teams out of the FA Cup the better it is for those who play chips early IMO, so fingers crossed more fall today

      • Rosco says:

What does you team look like? ( maybe link it) I’m not even sure I’d know who I would even change if I were to use mine now!

        • elcfc says:

Trick is when wildcarding early (I’ve found), is to concentrate on the squad – rather than an 11/12 players – so I don’t need to worry about making transfers for bench boost and blank game weeks.

So a strong bench of all playing players are needed, particularly those who will be playing in blanks!

On this wildcard I brought in Shaw, Robertson, Sane, Pogba, Lamela, Rashford, Aub, Patricio, Jonny, and Westwood

          Team linked mate

Good tips (and refreshingly different) elcfc.

      Zed Leppelin says:

Don’t use a FH chip for Gw25, it’s going to be huge rotation under Pep, Arsenal on the weekend, Everton midweek and then Chelsea after that the next weekend… All you need is max 1 City player and you can get that with FTs, FH chip is better used in a big Blank GW or a bigger DGW later on imo!

      • Kralin says:

Personally I would say two Man City players is OK (three would be pushing it, unless the manager was going to wildcard after, and even then rotation could doom that strategy anyway). But two should be all right, if the transfer can be skipped in week 26 and having two FT for GW27. And a bit of luck with injuries. And rotation, etc.

I was thinking beforehand that I may move Sterling out for 27 (and get Auba in), but will need 2FT for that.

Agree entirely re holding back the FH chip.
