Planning Ahead – DGW’s, Blanks etc… – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16

FT 27-32“When are the double game-weeks?”

“Who misses GW27?”

“Why is everybody talking about GW30 in terms of some sort of FPL apocalypse?!”

“When is the best time to use my chips?”

“Are there any other ‘GW30’ type surprises on the way?”

These are just some of the more common questions we’ve been asked recently and so we wanted to clear it all up and make it as as easy to understand as possible. It’s dead simple really. When you know the answer. That largely depends on the question though. In this case we know the questions and we know part of the answers. The rest of it is guesswork right now but here’s what we know, what we don’t know and what we will know soon enough.

“When are the double game-weeks?”All Fixtures

The double game-weeks will be in GW’s 34 & 37. We know this because of the scheduling of other competitions such as the Champions League and the Europa League. You cannot, by UEFA law, have an FPL game on the same midweek as one of their comps, which rules out a good few weeks and pretty much leaves the aforementioned weeks as our only options.

Let’s take the remaining weeks one by one to try and make this as simple as possible…

GW27
The following teams miss this week due to the League Cup Final-
Everton
Liverpool
Man City
Newcastle

GW28
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW29
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW30
The Apocalypse! All managers panic!
This is the one which could get messy! Who plays in this one depends on which teams progress to the FA Cup 6th round.

As of now only two games are certain to go ahead in GW30 and those are –
Leicester v Newcastle
Stoke v Southampton

The rest depends upon the following teams winning or losing their FA Cup 5th round ties which are –

Shrewsbury vs Man United

Chelsea vs Man City

Reading vs West Brom

Watford vs Leeds

Blackburn vs West Ham

Spurs vs Crystal Palace

Arsenal vs Hull

Bournemouth vs Everton

The rest of the GW30 schedule looks like this as we stand now but could be decimated depending on the results of the FA Cup games. Every game below for GW30 is affected by the results of the games above.

Arsenal vs West Brom – off if either win

Man Utd vs Crystal Palace – off if either win

West Ham vs Watford – off if either win

Aston Villa vs Spurs – off if Spurs win

Liverpool vs Chelsea – off if Chelsea win

Sunderland vs Everton – off if Everton win

Norwich vs Man City – off if Man City win

Bournemouth vs Swansea – off if Bournemouth win

Tick them off as you go next weekend! For info this particular FA Cup round occurs this weekend (ie between GW26 & 27). You will need to plan your GW27 / 28 / 29 transfers accordingly so as to have as many GW30 players as is possible, which still may be less than than preferable, but panic not as many will be in the same boat. And rest assured even more that many won’t be aware of the perils ahead!

GW31

GW32
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW33
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW34
All teams play and a potential DGW
This is the first of the windows for DGW’s. We don’t know who will feature but given the above information it is highly likely that at the very least Man City will need to get their first DGW out of the way on this week as it’s highly likely that they will have another in GW37.

[divider_1px]

GW35
This FPL week clashes with the FA Cup semi-finals and so any teams lucky enough to have progressed that far will miss out this week, and so will their opponents. They will therefore almost certainly fulfil their missed GW35 fixture(s) in GW37. You need to take this weeks blanks into consideration when planning any DGW assault in GW34.

[divider_1px]

GW36
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW37
The second potential bumper DGW
This may be a bumper one depending on how many make it through FA Cup R5 and subsequently R6. Certainly we will see the semi-finalists feature twice in this one but also the other teams that have been unable to reschedule previously in GW34.

[divider_1px]

GW38
All teams play. Lots of managers have heart attacks!

“When is the best time to use my remaining chips?”
If you have been prudent enough to save your second wildcard and also the bench boost and the triple captain chips then well done and you may reap the benefits very soon, all being well! The perceived wisdom here is that you will be best served by playing your WC the week before any DGW and then activating your bench boost on the week of it itself to hopefully maximise a full squad of DGW’ers. Which of the DGW’s you do this in will depend largely upon the pool of players available. If GW34 is looking light (4-6 DGW teams or less) then you may be best waiting for GW37. One of them will be busy anyway given how it’s looking so far. Pick the busiest one for this strategy as you need to remember that you will have that squad the week after it has finished too! If it happens to be GW37 then that may be less pertinent given that there is only one week left anyway but if it’s GW34 then it may need more thought and consideration as to what lies beyond.

As for the Triple Captain one then simply use this in the other DGW that you don’t use the Bench Boost for. Remember you can only use one chip per week and the wildcard itself is classed as a chip for this purpose.

    NIN says:

Hmm, stick with Trapp (3 pts) or switch out to Sels (vs Atletico next week)?

      NIN says:

      *Sels (vs Wolfsburg tonight)

I’m losing the plot these days laugh

      • FC Sanchez says:

Hey NIN. I don’t think Gent will keep a CS but I’d prolly go for it since even if Sels doesn’t, he’d prolly get 2 points. FYI, Wolfsburg are 8th in the Bundesliga and missing their main man Dost while Gent are 2nd in the Belgian league and have a decent record this year, though not that many clean sheets. Wolfsburg haven’t won in a while apart from their last match (which they won 2-0), although they usually score. Gent lost two consecutive games against top of the league Club Brugge (both by 1-0) before winning their last game 2-0 vs bottom of the league Mouscron-Peruwelz. Hope this helps!

        • NIN says:

Hey Sanchez, thanks for the reply. Yeah, i knew Wolfsburg where having a rough season and had lost a lot of games recently – did have Rodriguez and Draxler in my team but binned both due poor form. I suppose if Dost and Caliguri are both out then Sels might be worth a nod.

The draw was pretty harsh this year, eh? All eight ties are very close calls, cant really see any hammering’s. Maybe when Roma / Arsenal travel to Spain but other than that, not much.

        • FC Sanchez says:

I think Wolfsburg got a bunch of starters missing due to injuries and suspension! And I agree about the close match-ups, NIN! Tough to figure the clean sheets also, unlike the group stage!! I got a lot of CS points doubling up at the back last year.

        • NIN says:

Yeah mate, there’s usually a banker hammering in this round but we may not get it this time.

        • inittowinit says:

I’m all over Wolfsberg tonight! 2 defenders and Draxler. Guess I’ll have to watch that rather than Madrid though which is a bummer.

        • FC Sanchez says:

It really doesn’t get more exciting than Gent vs Wolfsburg, mate!!! :fish-bowl: In all honesty, it might end up being a decent match despite the name value as both know they have a chance to win. There are a several decent players as well (Draxler, MAX Kruse) though mostly on the Gent side (Milicevic, Kums, Depoitre) as Wolfsburg are plagued w/ injuries and a suspension. There’s still hope though Init… especially when you have a player named MAX KRUSE on your side! :biggun:

        • FC Sanchez says:

Forgot to include that former Chelksi man Schürrle plays for Wolfsburg. But then again Gent have none other than Thomas “Foket” playing for them. In fact, Gent surely takes the top prize when it comes to player names w/ the likes of Brian Vandenbussche, Sven Kums, Rob Schoofs, Kalifa Coulibaly, Simon Diedhiou, Hannes Van der Bruggen, Brecht Dejaeghere, William Troost-Ekong along with my favorite, the aforementioned Thomas Foket. All coached by main man Hein Vanhaezebrouck:

So Iva now plays CB :/ Just brought him in last week and Terry got injured and now he has to play CB -_- At his price I would like him to play RB and attack more, hopefully terry recovers till next gw

    Pancho says:

Init, in a previous post you said that Kun would have some easy potential DGWs but they are scheduled for CHE away in 34 and Arsenal home in 37. So what games are they guaranteed to have in 34 & 37?

    • 33.1
      Pancho says:

Found your comment (18.2). You said City’s “potential DGW’s will include either Newcastle and West Brom or Newcastle and Southampton.”

      • inittowinit says:

Ah yeah, nice one. I think I was looking at 33 and 36 then not 34 and 37. Yeah, that’s not nearly as good then.

        • Pancho says:

As I’ve looked it seems Arsenal and ManU have the best potential double in 34, so an Ozil/Sanchenz triple capo could be the way to go. If form continues to pick up then Roonwy/Martial could be good as well. Am I looking at it all right?

        • inittowinit says:

I think so mate. This is the next stage of all this really, to start looking after this weekend as to who actually gets a double, when that probably will be and who they will likely play in either scenario. I’ll expect your article on Sunday night 😉

        • Pancho says:

Haha Init, I can take a look at some of it but not sure I want the pressure of everything riding on those doubles. I can definitely write up something though if you need me to. Maybe shoot me an email with some ideas.
Did you see me post earlier this week that listed the 3-4 teams with the best fixture for each week now through the end? I could incorporate something like that. Maybe a “If you play your WC to set up for GW 34” section and another section for “If you save your WC for GW 37”?!

Morning all not sure what I’m doing at the moment forget to sort my CL team out , to much going on at work at the moment Have I lost my unlimited TF haven’t even logged in yet.

      NIN says:

Morning mate. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but yeah, your free wildcard is gone now. Try and bank one after the first leg games and then you should have seven FT’s for the QTR-F’s.

    • 34.2
      Raziel says:

I got 35 points for ya yesterday. Seven on sitting on my bench though! Brought in Gaitan last minute to get the rest of the team in order, seems I forget to bring him in starting 11. >.< Hate it when that happens. Glad it's not real FPL. :p It's a shit game anyways. laugh Something to keep us distracted while EPL is on a 2 week pause.

  5. 35
    Raziel says:

With Jeff Schlupp returning, should we fear for Fuchs starting position? Rotation? Anything?

  6. 36
    Rogueblood says:

Hows this team looking for the upcoming weeks dropped 700 places this week to 1402 gaining only 35 pts but did have 9 players playing of against one another. Still got bench boost, triple captain, wildcard and 2.9itb left.

    • 36.1
      Pancho says:

Rogue, IMO Cathcart should play over both Smalling & Kosc. Watford have been really stingy at the back at home. I’d probably have Smalling as first sub I think.

    • 36.2
      Pancho says:

Rogue, I forgot to mention that the team looks solid! I have those same front 7 but I also have Sanchez, so I have that conundrum :/
I know most have a similar squad, but the number of great players on good teams playing at home against weaker opposition makes this a potentially HUGE week! GL!

    • 36.3
      Rogueblood says:

Thanks Pancho took your suggestion, it could be a massive week and having an internal debate on who to captain ha ha. I would happily chose any of my front 3 this week all at home.
