Planning Ahead – DGW’s, Blanks etc… – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16

FT 27-32“When are the double game-weeks?”

“Who misses GW27?”

“Why is everybody talking about GW30 in terms of some sort of FPL apocalypse?!”

“When is the best time to use my chips?”

“Are there any other ‘GW30’ type surprises on the way?”

These are just some of the more common questions we’ve been asked recently and so we wanted to clear it all up and make it as as easy to understand as possible. It’s dead simple really. When you know the answer. That largely depends on the question though. In this case we know the questions and we know part of the answers. The rest of it is guesswork right now but here’s what we know, what we don’t know and what we will know soon enough.

“When are the double game-weeks?”All Fixtures

The double game-weeks will be in GW’s 34 & 37. We know this because of the scheduling of other competitions such as the Champions League and the Europa League. You cannot, by UEFA law, have an FPL game on the same midweek as one of their comps, which rules out a good few weeks and pretty much leaves the aforementioned weeks as our only options.

Let’s take the remaining weeks one by one to try and make this as simple as possible…

GW27
The following teams miss this week due to the League Cup Final-
Everton
Liverpool
Man City
Newcastle

[divider_1px]

GW28
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW29
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW30
The Apocalypse! All managers panic!
This is the one which could get messy! Who plays in this one depends on which teams progress to the FA Cup 6th round.

As of now only two games are certain to go ahead in GW30 and those are –
Leicester v Newcastle
Stoke v Southampton

The rest depends upon the following teams winning or losing their FA Cup 5th round ties which are –

Shrewsbury vs Man United

Chelsea vs Man City

Reading vs West Brom

Watford vs Leeds

Blackburn vs West Ham

Spurs vs Crystal Palace

Arsenal vs Hull

Bournemouth vs Everton

The rest of the GW30 schedule looks like this as we stand now but could be decimated depending on the results of the FA Cup games. Every game below for GW30 is affected by the results of the games above.

Arsenal vs West Brom – off if either win

Man Utd vs Crystal Palace – off if either win

West Ham vs Watford – off if either win

Aston Villa vs Spurs – off if Spurs win

Liverpool vs Chelsea – off if Chelsea win

Sunderland vs Everton – off if Everton win

Norwich vs Man City – off if Man City win

Bournemouth vs Swansea – off if Bournemouth win

Tick them off as you go next weekend! For info this particular FA Cup round occurs this weekend (ie between GW26 & 27). You will need to plan your GW27 / 28 / 29 transfers accordingly so as to have as many GW30 players as is possible, which still may be less than than preferable, but panic not as many will be in the same boat. And rest assured even more that many won’t be aware of the perils ahead!

GW31
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW32
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW33
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW34
All teams play and a potential DGW
This is the first of the windows for DGW’s. We don’t know who will feature but given the above information it is highly likely that at the very least Man City will need to get their first DGW out of the way on this week as it’s highly likely that they will have another in GW37.

[divider_1px]

GW35
This FPL week clashes with the FA Cup semi-finals and so any teams lucky enough to have progressed that far will miss out this week, and so will their opponents. They will therefore almost certainly fulfil their missed GW35 fixture(s) in GW37. You need to take this weeks blanks into consideration when planning any DGW assault in GW34.

[divider_1px]

GW36
All teams play

[divider_1px]

GW37
The second potential bumper DGW
This may be a bumper one depending on how many make it through FA Cup R5 and subsequently R6. Certainly we will see the semi-finalists feature twice in this one but also the other teams that have been unable to reschedule previously in GW34.

[divider_1px]

GW38
All teams play. Lots of managers have heart attacks!

[divider_1px]

“When is the best time to use my remaining chips?”
If you have been prudent enough to save your second wildcard and also the bench boost and the triple captain chips then well done and you may reap the benefits very soon, all being well! The perceived wisdom here is that you will be best served by playing your WC the week before any DGW and then activating your bench boost on the week of it itself to hopefully maximise a full squad of DGW’ers. Which of the DGW’s you do this in will depend largely upon the pool of players available. If GW34 is looking light (4-6 DGW teams or less) then you may be best waiting for GW37. One of them will be busy anyway given how it’s looking so far. Pick the busiest one for this strategy as you need to remember that you will have that squad the week after it has finished too! If it happens to be GW37 then that may be less pertinent given that there is only one week left anyway but if it’s GW34 then it may need more thought and consideration as to what lies beyond.

As for the Triple Captain one then simply use this in the other DGW that you don’t use the Bench Boost for. Remember you can only use one chip per week and the wildcard itself is classed as a chip for this purpose.

    Colriles says:

Hey all, glad to be checking back in after a hiatus without internet after moving into our new house! So, any suggestions for transfers this week? Looking at Vardy > Ighalo but could hold off until next week with that one. Also, do I play 3-5-2 with Stanislas in, or 4-4-2 with Morgan? Cheers.

    2 FT, 1.9 in bank
    Butland
    Cresswell, Toby, Nyom, Morgan
    Alli, Mahrez, Ozil, Payet
    Kane, Ighalo
    (Cech, Stanislas, Yoshida, Aguero)

That should be Ighalo > Vardy…

And of course many thanks Innit for a great info-packed article.

Hi Colriles, hope the move went well! Horrible experience that. Was for me anyway but it did also involve moving in with the in-laws for 3 months so that may not have helped smile

You have an embarrassment of riches in defence this week. I’d keep it as you have it there. The Vardy move may need doing next week anyway given Watford’s subsequent games. Given as you would lose the FT I’d probably get it done this week and still be carrying 2 forward and knowing they can be used elsewhere as they’ll likely be needed!

Cheers Innit and MHM. Both are good shouts, have to give it another think. Yeah, move was alright, glad it’s over! My max with the in-laws is about 3 days so you’re a stronger man than I !! :cuckoo:

      Pancho says:

Colriles, I like Matt’s idea of Aguero -> Vardy for this week and then Ighalo -> Kun next week. In fact, that’s what I’ve done with my squad:
      Ali – Payet – Mahrez – Ozil – Sanchez
      Kane – Ighalo – Vardy
Gonna be a coin toss on who to bench…

Sounds like Rooney is out for a couple of months if nobody has caught that news yet. Knee ligament damage. United presser at 5pm will likely confirm it. He’s certainly not travelled to Denmark anyway for starters.

Yup the Southampton one ! Damn I always write the wrong one

        • Snookie,

Just read Pochettino saying that he’ll miss the away leg against Fiorentina and Crystal Place in the cup.

Should be back for the second leg in Europe next Thursday.

          From BBC Sport:

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will miss Thursday’s Europa League last-32 first-leg tie at Fiorentina because of a shoulder injury.

The France international, 29, was hurt towards the end of Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League win at Manchester City.

The injury will also keep him out of Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round game with Crystal Palace.

“It is not a big, big issue. It is a very small injury,” said Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

“We need to assess him during the week if he can be available for next Thursday but for sure, Thursday and Sunday he is out.”

i have 0.2m in the bank and i have used my ft already. Will it be wise to take -8 hits to bring eriksen in place of firmino and wollschied or fonte in place of alderweireld

    FC Sanchez says:

A DRAXLER goal for ya, Init! And Trasch still in for a CS. Now just waiting for a Ronnie blitz though he has been pretty quiet so far.

    • 41.1
      FC Sanchez says:

Great goal from Ronnie and another Draxler goal!

      • inittowinit says:

Yay! I’ll take a brace from good old good luck charm Draxler! Just spunked their CS though. Got Navas on for one though.

        • FC Sanchez says:

…and a Trasch assist I believe. Good day at the office.

        • inittowinit says:

Indeedy! How’d you do, if you had anyone other than Ronnie playing? Early thoughts on capo? Think I’ll be switching.

        • FC Sanchez says:

Pretty decent. Also had Kums (didn’t you as well?) for 7. Kept capo on Gaitan (14pts) and might keep it that way though I have Messi + Suarez next week. Tough to choose betw/ the two so might just keep it on Gaitian. Haha. Arsenal could be in for a right thrashing though the form Barca are in…

        • inittowinit says:

No didn’t have Kums, although if I’d realised his full name was Sven Kums I may have just for comedy value smile I had Dzyuba instead who did naff all. Didn’t realise you had Gaitan as capo. Forgot you’d gone for a Day 1 strategy. Yeah I’d probably still switch to Messi. Still think Arsenal can and will keep them fairly tight at home. It’s the away leg where I think they may get spanked. Guess I’ll have to go Lewandowski.

        • FC Sanchez says:

Might be tempted to put it on Lewanbrewski if I had him, although away at Juventus/Turin might be a really tight game for Bayern as they will be against the Italian bike line of Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini (though Chi might miss the match through injury). Juve haven’t conceded this year except in one game where they let in one. That’s 9 shutouts out of 10 this year including two in the Coppa Itallia! Suffice to say it should be a tense and hopefully exciting match!

        • inittowinit says:

Sorry mate, yes I did have Sven Kums! Getting him confused with their forward. He was my cheapo 5th mid too. Get in Sven son!

        • DMC says:

Lol I have kums too! Did get rid of Julian though, for Di Maria, based on current form. A shame really. Have it on Ronnie, after having it on shatov In day 1 and will keep it mooving until some bugger gets a brace! #gobitethemluiz

        • FC Sanchez says:

Tough break on the Draxler –> De maria swap, DMC. Understandable as he’s only scored 4 goals all season and only one in the last few months. At least De Maria got the assist. He did look dangerous on numerous occasions so he might get on the points in the second leg mate.

    Raziel says:

Hmmm just the 1 goal from Ronaldo. I think I might switch cappo to Messi, whom could destroy Arsenal and/or could do nothing. ^^

Risk I’m willing to take. Gaitan on my bench because something didn’t fucking work out with my team and I see Naldo didn’t play tonight (didn’t you also have him Innit)? Naldo not playing is no prob since they conceded 2 goals. Wolfsburg are shite!

    • 42.1
      Raziel says:

Anyway, let me think Sitting on 48 points, if I change change cappo to Messi it will be 42 but with Messi left to play as cappo. Also have Moreno (PSV) and Geminez (AtlMad) left to play. Doubling up on Benfica defence has paid off. Better than Wolfsburg. SHITE MAN! I could have been sitting on a massive 55 points with 3 players plus cappo to go. Aah well, can’t have it all. ^^

    • 42.2
      FC Sanchez says:

Naldo was suspended for the one game. He’ll be back next match and hopefully with another brace like he did vs United in that final group stage game!

    • 42.3
      inittowinit says:

I ditched Naldo but only because Sanchez (thanks) pointed out the suspension. Site itself failed to bother mentioning it and UEFA tipster Andrew didn’t spot it either despite viewing my team and saying it was good to go! He did tweet me later on to say he was suspended though. 2 hours after the deadline! That’s no bad on him though, I do like him. He’s the only one that fronts up his employer and calls the site sh*t like the rest of us do!
