Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 6 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 6. Here in Japan, last night’s gales of typhoon Tamil have acceded to a sky of glorious azure, serving as an appropriate metaphor for surveying the carnage of an erratic GW5. Only 2 strikers broke double-digits, an achievement matched by as many goalkeepers. So while the faithful multitudes that stuck with Lukaku were richly rewarded; those that banked on Firmino were left bankrupt. The two biggest stories though, unfolded elsewhere. A shoe-in for the armband, a reinvigorated Kane freshly thawed from his yearly August deep freeze, got cold feet. However, over in the Hornets nest Watford got stung by Pep’s Rocket Man, Aguero. Don’t worry Elton, he caught a few of us off guard but we’re still...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 5 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 5. This is only my second Captain Picks article but in my last article 4 out of my 7 picks either scored, assisted or both; so hopefully I can continue this trend with my picks below. Last weekend we saw some new players settling into their teams and their new surroundings in the first gameweek after the International Break and the closing of the transfer window. The likes of Renato Sanches, Zappacosta and Krychowiak all featured for the first time in the Premier League. Hopefully with all the business now done and the new players settling into their teams it will allow us, as fantasy managers, to see the real picture and begin to get a feel of how the landscape lies. Case in point GroS and...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 4 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 4. By the time you read this I’ll be home in Newcastle, back to dreary weather, back to 9-5 and my ‘vacation’ a distant memory. Right now however, I’m writing this by the pool in Vegas debating what type of cocktail to have next – life isn’t so bad! As the drama of deadline day unfolded (for some of us) I followed from afar debating how potential transfers would impact on the players I would propose in my very first captains article, very little it turns out. Had Alexis Sanchez completed his move to Manchester City as predicted, it was likely his 2.4% ownership would have risen rapidly and his inclusion in this article would be a formality. Whichever side of th...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 3 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 3. It actually feels like I’ve caught you at a bad time: summer is nearly over now; the Minions recently surpassed our beloved ogrelord Shrek, as the highest-grossing animated film franchise in history; the initial buzz of the new season is fading and player prices have started to fall. I can’t stop any of these dismal events, but I can offer hope for the future, a mere taster of the FPL points to come. Andy Carroll — our favourite Donkey — should really be the only player we need to save us but, considering his eternal state of injury, we should probably consider some inferior options. Christian Eriksen vs Burnley (H) This man has never featured in one of my captaincy articles before. That...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2. There are some fantasy players who use the ‘Perma Captain’ tactic – i.e. they decide from the start who their most productive player will be and slap the armband on him for the entire season. In recent seasons this can be argued to be a pretty good, if slightly boring tactic when you consider we have had the luxury of choosing players such as Aguero, Kane and Alexis. One game-week into the new season and the favourite for the ‘PC’ brigade is of course Romelu Lukaku after his opening weekend brace. With United looking like they are at least going to be better than last season and with many predicting another second season turnaround by Jose, Lukaku will likely be near the top of most capo...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 1 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 1. “The First Cut is the Deepest”. “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”. First come, first served. Love at first sight. Make a good first impression. The first US President, George Washington. The first Tour de France champion, Maurice Garin. The first winner of ‘The Voice’ in Lithuania, Julija Jegorova. To truly leave your mark or carve out a legacy you often need to make that first step count. Just like Neil Armstrong did in some 1969 Kubrick movie I saw. Your first FPL captain of 2017/18 has a lot to live up to. Last season Philippe Coutinho topped the GW1 charts with a 15 point haul, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 9 points proved that FPL new boys ca...[Read More]
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 38 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 38. I’ll start with a health warning here – you are about to get GW38 Captain tips from someone who once benched a player in GW38 who scored a hat-trick! You can be forgiven for tuning out now, but let me try and explain… A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… I benched Lukaku. At that time he played for West Brom and was a bit part player and was playing against Man United in Sir Alex’s farewell game. It was a shoe-in victory for United for sure. Ten goals later and all that… Lukaku came off the bench to score a hat-trick in a ridiculous 5-5 draw. I’m sure I had a good reason to bench him, I just can’t remember what it was – I&...[Read More]
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 37 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 37. Spare a thought for DGW37 outcasts Bournemouth, Burnley, Palace, Everton, Hull, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Stoke, Swansea and West Ham; wandering around the wilderness futilely in search of a second helping, like acne-ridden flotsam cast into the social void, while the other half lives it up in shared accommodation with their fine-dining and beautiful spouses. Those with their single games are not welcome in these parts. This is ‘Wife Swap’ on steroids. In this week’s episode… ALEXIS SANCHEZ – Stoke City (A), Sunderland (H) [three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″] Embed from Getty Images [/three_fifth]Alexis is a lucky boy to still be clinging ont...[Read More]
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 36 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 36. Welcome to the business end of the season lads and lasses – a small DGW gets us under way before the real big one in DGW37! This particular DGW has turned out to be a bit less appealing than most thought it would, as Arsenal and Southampton are both in poor form. Given Southampton’s lackluster performances, I believe there are better options for the armband than from them this week. They seem to be on the beach already and their manager seems fine with it too so forgive me for giving them a wide berth this time. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the other options for this week… Harry Kane (away vs West Ham) [three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″] Embed from Get...[Read More]
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 35 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 35. Well, woe betide the following unlucky players that I’m recommending in this article, as 3 of my last 5 picks were Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sadio Mane and Seamus Coleman, all of whom have since suffered a fairly nasty season-ending injury. There’s not long left of this one now, in fairness, which means time’s running out for us to catch that irritating mate who sits just above us in our mini-leagues: that process has to start with a great choice of captain! There is (in my meagre opinion) no stand-out option for this weekend, which will ensure a wide variety of captains across the boards, quickly followed by plenty of heartache across the FPL lands. Perhaps we should ask Joey Barton who...[Read More]
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 34 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 34. You always know you are coming to the business end of the season when the double gameweeks start coming thick and fast and this is the first of three in four weeks. It’s kind of an appetiser to the main course of DGW37 with just the three teams playing twice this time as opposed to ten of them in that one. And yet that fact may be an interesting one, as those lucky enough to have some valuable chips left will be eyeing up DGW37 as the perfect Bench Boost material. Which means if they have a Triple Captain chip left then it will most likely be deployed this week or on Sanchez in DGW36. Even if you aren’t in that situation then your captain will be all important in the cl...[Read More]
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 33 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 33. I’ve always admired the positivity of hitchhikers; after all, every time I drive past one, they’re holding their thumbs up. So yesterday, instead of merely slowing down to reciprocate the gesture, I decided to stop and accommodate one on my journey. My fellow traveller on this occasion turned out to be none other than a certain David Moyles* (*Name changed to protect real identity). Among the many topics we discussed were borderline red cards, vigilante retribution against female journalists and, fortunately for this tame segue, who to captain in FPL Gameweek 33. 5.
