A Midsummer Night’s Fantasy … (Football Musings)

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 2 Two phrases I’ve learned and hated my entire adult life – ‘think outside the box’ and ‘introspect’. As though it mattered much, since my own life was involved in finance and statistics, where you actually look inside ‘boxes’ (and not those of the nice kind mind you) and introspecting gets you called a lackadaisical weirdo. We left that to the office shrink. But a new season of fantasy football is upon us. A lot of bets have been placed. Some (unjustifiable) ego and pride are at stake. Many of us are just a tad bit short of a suicidal Japanese-workaholic. And the only thing keeping us from tearing our hair out and sticking a pen in Slick Joe’s eye, as he lathers up yet another pretty new intern with his smooth words, hair, gestures and just the right touch o...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2 Here we are, already diving into Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2. Gameweek 1’s high flyers comprised the usual medley of routine regulars and ragtag randoms we’ve come to expect from the dawning weekend of an FPL season. Thousands took to the streets for Mo Salah’s 8 points; hundreds danced in the aisles to the tune of Jamie Vardy’s late Old Trafford cameo; while one hungover bloke from Swindon raised a refilled glass of mulled wine to his previous night’s drunken captain punt on Watford’s Roberto Pereyra. Disappointments for many included Harry Kane’s continued August allergy and Sergio Aguero’s unwillingness to find an unmarked Kevin De Bruyne with a square pass. In summary, GW1 belonged t...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 2

Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 2 Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 2. And as quickly as that, it is all over. All the optimism pumped into you on these boards over the past few weeks has been shattered, all that boasting to your mates that they may as well just pay you the league winner’s money before the season starts has backfired, and all that time picking hidden ‘gems’ was wasted. Indeed, the only hidden gem we truly managed to find – Aaron Wan-Bissaka – was parked on our benches, sandwiched between reckless Enabler A and feckless Enabler B. I joke, of course. We are one week in. I will save you the patronising hare and tortoise, sprint and marathon rubbish in the hope that someone wildcards for the entertainment of the rest of the site. Gameweek 1 will ...[Read More]

MLS Tips Fantasy Major League Soccer GW25

While the English Premier League kicked off its new season, over the pond the Fall season continued in typical MLS style with unexpected results all over the shop. In the Cascadia Cup, Portland’s unbeaten run of 15 games was finally snapped by the visitors from Vancouver. Elsewhere, it was surprising to see Philadelphia make it 3 wins in their last 4 away games, considering they only had 1 win in their previous 8 road matches. In fantasy terms there were few big scorers, as the goals were shared around much more than we’ve seen recently. For example, across Saturday’s 8 games, 21 goals were scored by 20 different goal-scorers, with the only brace coming from the most unlikely source (a Philly defender, playing away, with only 0.67% ownership!). Further multiple goal-scorers did follow on S...[Read More]

Harry and Lloyd’s Predictions GW2

Harry and Lloyd’s Predictions GW2 Welcome to Harry and Lloyd’s Predictions GW2. You have probably noticed the change in name and that Rosco and I are no longer known as Barry and Paul. The reason for this name change is out of respect for one of Britain’s greatest comedians, Barry Chuckle who unfortunately passed away last week. This meant we needed a new duo and there are many out there to choose from but it was decided that we needed to pick a duo that really represented us so we went with Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas better known as Dumb and Dumber! We’ll let you decide on who’s who! Last week saw the return of the Premier League and resulted in the first winner of the maiden Harry and Lloyd’s, Goal Machine, on a whopping 19 points with Labyrinth i...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 1

Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 1 And we are off!! Another season of bitter FPL disappointment for most gets rolling when Leicester travels to Old Trafford to take on Jose’s happy warriors. That Friday night fixture is followed by six more on Saturday. A lunch time affair sees Newcastle and Spurs face off in the battle of who spent the least this transfer window. That is followed by The Cherries vs newcomers Cardiff. Fulham who is also recently promoted, tangle with Palace, Huddersfield plays host to Sarri-ball, Watford dukes it out with Brighton and in the late game we get a first look at the much talked about Wolves side when they face off vs Everton. Sunday brings us the last three fixtures. Liverpool begin what promises to be an exciting season that is likely to end the...[Read More]

FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GW1

FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GW1 We’re back! Last season was something of a disappointment as we finished with our lowest rank since we first introduced the site team back in 2014/15. We don’t set ourselves any goals at the beginning of each season but at the very least we want to beat last season’s final rank. Hang on, is that a goal?! Just like the rest of you we’ve spent five minutes hours agonising over who to include in our GW1 squad and we’re finally there. Are we happy? Ask us that around 6pm on Sunday evening! Below we have outlined some of our thought process when picking our squad. Hopefully it makes sense! Goalkeepers When we posted our very provisional squad a couple of weeks ago we had two £4.5m keepers. This then became a premium and a £4.0m option before reverting to two...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 1

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 1 Where have the last three months gone? May 13th only seems like yesterday. It was a summer dominated for much of us by events in Russia. England won a penalty shoot-out and football nearly came home. The likes of Germany and Spain disappointed while the French eventually triumphed. But that’s all in the past. It’s been an interesting summer in the Premier League. Of last season’s top 6, Chelsea and Arsenal have new managers. Jose is still moaning. Spurs are yet to add to last season’s squad. Liverpool have spent a fortune. And, City are still the ones to beat. Elsewhere, Everton have spent £50m on a player who disappeared last season. Mike Ashley continues to be a favourite amongst the Geordies. Last but certainly not least, Colin is back! All of this and m...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 1

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 1 Finally, GW1 one is upon us and brings with it fresh hope for each and every one of us with new teams, new players and a renewed sense of belief. Anticipation, excitement, everybody’s happy, well everybody aside Jose Mourinho, but he’s never happy so don’t let him bring you down. Picking a successful GW1 squad is a lottery at the best of times, throw in a World Cup and we have so many variables to consider, it’s enough to make even the most astute FPL manager lose their damn mind. You can study every pre-season game, fry your brain with endless stats and you’ll still be kicking yourself for ignoring at least one player ‘who you had’ in at least one of your 1001 pre-season drafts, sadly, that’s just how it is. So what can save you from instant FPL-i...[Read More]

MLS Tips Fantasy Major League Soccer GW24

After a long wait the Fall season finally started, but its arrival brought both pleasure and pain to fantasy managers. While those with underperforming teams may have been glad of the opportunity for a fresh start, everybody else felt robbed as they lost the luxury of their massive bank balances. It was a day of levelling when all managers woke up with a reset budget and newly priced players with some of them repositioned. It was an equal challenge for all to pick a decent squad, with only grim prospects of switcheroos due to affordability. Nevertheless, it was an exciting round with some surprising results. The highlight went to the Houston Dynamo vs Sporting Kansas City game, which saw 3 red and 8 yellow cards (including the ejection of the host team manager)! Gameweek 23 Review After a ...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 1

Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 1 We’ve spent the last few weeks studying the promoted teams and new transfers but now it’s time to get down to the business end and prepare for GW1 and beyond with the Fixtures article. As we are all aware, a positive flying start to the FPL season can stand us in good stead for the rest of the season, whereas falling behind early doors can lead to a long campaign of chasing points and rank. So preparation is key, knowledge is power as they say. In that regard let’s kick off the build up to GW1 with a look at who has a favourable start to the season and who may be better off avoided for now. Favourable Fixtures Liverpool – West Ham (H), Crystal Palace (a), Brighton (H) Pre-season seems to have gone well for Klopp and his disciples. Midfielders Ke...[Read More]
