How the FA Cup is shaping up after the fifth round

How the FA Cup is shaping up after the fifth round We’re now down to the last eight teams remaining in the FA Cup, after an unusual midweek fifth round took place, with action spread across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There were no huge shocks, with Bournemouth the last non-Premier League team remaining after they knocked out Burnley, while Everton and Tottenham Hotspur served up the greatest entertainment of the round, with the Toffees emerging 5-4 winners after extra time. The quarter-final draw has been made, and there are a few tasty ties to look forward to. The matches are set to take place over the weekend of March 20th and 21st, so teams have plenty of time to build some momentum in the league before battling it out for a place in the semi-finals at Wembley. Let’s take an in-de...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 24 Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 24 Let the fun begin! FF247 FPL Team GW24

FF247 FPL Team GW24 Welcome to FF247 FPL Team GW24 A strategy?! As some of you may recall this was the week we took the plunge on two Burnley players – Nick Pope and Matt Lowton – as they had a nice little run of games and started those at home to improving but hardly world-beating Brighton. And then 10 minutes from half time, Lewis Dunk happened. Four points from our duo of new signings was hardly a fantastic start to the week (more so when you take into account we had Jack Grealish with a 2 point apology in the lunchtime match). Thankfully Saturday was rounded off with a Coufal clean sheet and then 26 points from Bruno © and DCL at Old Trafford in that brilliant 3-3 draw. Sunday’s big match saw us owning Dias (1), Salah (7) and Gundogan (13) with Bamford grabbing a 6 pointer in the Monda...[Read More]

FPL Captain Picks Gameweek 24

FPL Captain Picks Gameweek 24 Welcome to FPL Captain Picks Gameweek 24 When a hero comes along… …with the strength to carry on. Etc. Said strength will have been tested to the limit as of late, in FPL. And elsewhere, of course. Especially for those who considered Soucek’s powers too much to resist. And subsequently played him ahead of the likes of DCL or even Gundogan. As we go into a bit of a mini DGW the main question is whether this week’s hero will come from our double selection or from a more conventional single game-week source. Let’s go see what our merrily unmasked men think… Init – Gundogan v Spurs (H) & Everton (A) Yeah ok, so he absolutely can do it on a wet Tuesday night away at West Brom but can he do it against the Champions on prime-ti...[Read More]

FPL Fixtures Gameweek 24 (and 25 and beyond…)

FPL Fixtures Gameweek 24 (and 25 and beyond…) A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… I used to write the Fixtures articles on both here and FFC* before us (*’Fantasy Football Cheat’ for those of a younger era). Week in and week out, for years on end, and whilst it was always a pleasure it could sometimes become monotonous. But then once in a while a Double Game-Week (DGW) would pop up and that would really (finally) pique the interest. Kid in a candy shop and all that. Or more like a weather reporter in Florida who suddenly has a hurricane to deal with. We both know they are coming eventually but for 98% of the rest of the year it’s samey-samey. I have long since given up the monotony, prefering to introduce some younger blood and new voices to the scene....[Read More]

Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 23

Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 23 Another gameweek on top of the previous one. This one gets us going with a lunch-time battle of the only two teams that start with the letter A when Aston Villa face off vs Arsenal and that of course is followed by a meeting of the only two teams that start with the letter B in Burnley vs Brighton. Along with that game we have Toon taking on Saints so our alphabet game is already ruined. Fulham and Hammers gets the 5:30 spot and the day is brought to a close by what should be an entertaining affair when United play host to Everton. Sunday brings us four more fixtures. The early game sees Spurs throttle West Brom, that is followed by a battle of Wolves vs Foxes. The third game of the day is a title decider-ish? Probably not, but it should still b...[Read More]

FF247 FPL Team GW23

FF247 FPL Team GW23 Welcome to FF247 FPL Team GW23. Our score of 65 in GW22 saw us record our first red arrow in seven weeks, despite us beating the average of 57. This is what a failed captain (Salah), a blanking goalkeeper (McCarthy) and failures on the part of Dallas and Targett (one point apiece) brings. Luckily for us everyone else delivered – the mandatory clean sheet for Dias, assists aplenty for Grealish, Gundogan, Bamford and Antonio while Bingo Bruno was the stand out with the full house of goal, assist(s) and clean sheet. The red arrow takes us back to 967,981 but with 2 free transfers, a wildcard in hand and double game-weeks coming up we’re confident of a strong finish. Our GW22 Result… Let’s go see what was decided… Our GW23 Transfer(s) With two free transfe...[Read More]

FF247 FPL Team GW22

FF247 FPL Team GW22 Welcome to FF247 FPL Team GW22 Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?! What a week (finally). We finally managed to play Targett and benefitted from him and luckily warded off a late Friday steer towards bringing in Joao Cancelo for a hit. We were close. We scored 73 points and a cool 25 above average having made only a single transfer, which sadly itself didn’t reap instant rewards with our Kane replacement, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, being hampered by a bit of an all-round disappointing Everton performance. One of those weeks where all of our defenders returned. Ruben Dias (8, inc. 2 bonus) and Targett (6) with clean sheets and Stuart Dallas (7). The Northern Irishman scoring his side’s equaliser against Leicester. McCarthy in goal got 3. Gundogan as captain (6) was a bit of a le...[Read More]

FPL Captain Picks Gameweek 22

FPL Captain Picks Gameweek 22 The (sh*t) show must go on… Having spirited in the essence of Guy Sanchez last week I’ll turn to Freddie for inspiration this week. Having viewed the team sheets this past weekend, and the subsequent comments on site about the absolute carnage which followed I’d forgive a good many for simply throwing the towel in. It is the oddest of odd seasons, and that says a lot after the last one! Cramming in this many games was always going to test squads out, both fantasy and real ones. The main problem here is that the more ‘aspirational’ players tend to be with clubs with larger squads, and are therefore more susceptible to rotation. And so it is proving. But we shall carry on. On a personal note Mrs Init still lies prone in bed, this il...[Read More]

Harry and Lloyd’s Fantasy Predictions GW’s 20-23

Harry and Lloyd’s Fantasy Predictions GW’s 20-23 GW19 is not quite finished but as far as this competition goes it’s as over as Liverpool’s title hopes (I jest of course). The reduced GW18 saw predictably low-scoring with just 2pts being the pickup for most of our competitors. However LittleRedLacazette mirrored his impressive FPL form to take top-spot with 6pts with 2nd place shared among the masses – AllanBrallan, Padster, Elderzadi, Sweetbluetoffee, Eplnoob, Coys, Qwkliduzzit and Perun. Nobody got FGS correct (Billy Sharp in the 73rd minute). In contrast, GW19 boasted an inflated fixture list and that was reflected in the 17pts required to take top-spot. That was done by one of our own and former H&L contributor DMC – nice work pal!. Second place was t...[Read More]
