Fixture Tracker – Fantasy Premier League 2014-15

Fixture Tracker - Fantasy Premier League 2014-15We’ve all seen a few different ways of viewing upcoming fixtures, and the one that has become increasingly popular over the last couple of years is the colour-coded one. With this, you can instantly see each team’s approaching fixtures with an accompanying colour that corresponds to the difficulty of each match. This is very useful for both identifying teams that are potentially about to have a great run due to a kind set of fixtures, and also identifying weaker teams that can rotate well, i.e. when one team has a bad fixture the other will have a decent one, so you swap between the two players. For more info on rotation, check out Mito’s somewhat exceptional article on it 😉 Rotation Analysis Home and Away and Favourable fixtures

Many of these colour-coded tickers only show a few weeks in advance, which is very helpful for short-term plans, but not if you’re planning transfers for the long-term. It is understandable that these tickers are short-term, as teams’ form tends to fluctuate as the season progresses, so if you made a season-long ticker now, it may well not be a good reflection of how difficult a match is come Christmas or Easter. Who knows, maybe Villa will get off to a blinder and win 10 out of 15 (hahaha!), in which case a game against them would no longer be considered easy. Also, sometimes we may even disagree with the colour a certain match has been assigned by the fantasy football gurus that make the tickers! The ticker I have made is designed with both of these points in mind, and can be updated throughout the season as and when you see fit.

Customisable Tracker
Some of you may already have seen my earlier prototype after I posted it on the boards last week (much to init’s dismay :p ) – I have since added all 38 GWs to the tracker, modified the colours used and added a new custom search for individual teams, so even if you had the original please do use this updated version instead.

fig1 And it works like this: I have split up all 20 teams into four groups of similar ability, and then given every possible combination (of which there are 32) a difficulty rating of between A and E (5 difficulties as opposed to 3 for greater accuracy). Both of these factors are the variables that you can change, and doing so will automatically update the colours in your fixtures tab. Simply click on the ‘Variables’ tab as shown in fig.1, change any of the values in the cyan-coloured columns shown in fig. 2,fig2 and you will be able to view your very own customised 38 GW fixture tracker as shown in the main image above. This is all explained in more detail in the ‘How It Works’ tab. Finally, I have made a ‘Compare Fixtures’ tab as well – this allows you to select only the teams you wish in order to see just how well they compare and/or rotate, without having the distraction of all 20 teams’ colours present. If you wish to use this tool then select the ‘Compare Fixtures’ tab and then click on the ‘Add Team’ drop-down menu as shown in fig. 3 and choose the team you want. You can do this with as many or as few teams as you wish. Though it seems rather simple, I found this last feature very tricky and would not have been able to make it work as well as it does without the help of Dreamers, so a huge thanks to him!

fig3I have made the link read-only, so as to preserve the template in its original format for everyone in case the formulas stop working. Just save your own version of the file, and you will be able to customise it entirely as you see fit. Please bear in mind that this was made with Google Sheets and is intended to be used in that format so it can be saved in favourites for easy access; if you download it with Excel then the margins and borders will probably be off so will need adjusting. I am always open to suggestions for ways to improve it, so feel free to send me a message or post a comment below to that effect if you have any ideas. And finally, I have double- and triple-checked the fixtures, but there are a lot of them and after a point they all tend to blur together, so if you spot any mistakes please let me know as soon as possible!

Click the link below for the file. Hope it helps a few of you, happy customising.

Right. This is doing my tits in! Which combo do we prefer folks..

Fabianski, Begovic, P.Jones & F.Luis? Or Krul, Man Pants, Terry & Shaw?

I much prefer the Terry/Shaw pairing but at the same time much prefer the Begovic/Fabianski rotation so long term, which do we think will bring the most points? I’ll be back in about half an hour or so so thanks in advance for any opinions.

So what players are we looking at to impress us in the Charity Shield game this weekend, I’m keeping a keen eye on Chambers at the back for a cheap option into Arsenal’s back line early days (Might just double up with Debuchy against Palace), Sanchez and Yaya are going to be having a head to head battle to see who makes my GW 1 team and Dzeko could persuade me to leave out Costa if he bangs in a goal or two (Don’t really fancy Jovetic even if he’s in form as I doubt he’d make a good partner for Aguero.).

How do we see the first meaningful game of the 2014/15 season affecting our FF lineups.

      Kop Warrior says:

Andy, I’ll have my eye on Silva. I’d like to get some City coverage into my team and for now I don’t think I’ll be able to afford Yaya.

      • Andy says:

I think we’ll be needing at least a City player or two to start the season with Kop, I’ve adapted Calvins tool to try and predict the odds of a team scoring in any given game rather than just trying to predict the likely outcome of a certain fixtures result and City’s opening games sharp turned a lot more greener.

      Raziel says:

Janmaat could go to Davies. Would swap in Davies for Janmaat in GW3.

      • Calvin Clyne says:

Why would you wait to do that?! Janmaat has bad fixture then an away fixture, Davies has a better first fixture and then home against QPR for the second one…

First team is great, bench is very iffy, though you are aware of that I’m sure. That’s clearly the sacrifice you are prepared to make for such an awesome first team.

        • Raziel says:

Yeah, however I expect to have 4 playing defenders always, DDG should also start every match. Wisdom and Albrighton are fillers.

Was considering Janmaat to Davies. Is Davies settled by the way? I heard he might be in a rotation battle?

        • Calvin Clyne says:

As I understand it he’ll be battling it out with Rose, but am not 100% on the situation. If he’s set to start then 5.0 is a bargain for Spurs defence! May have to rethink my defenders now..

        • Raziel says:

Just checked, Spurs have 13 listed defenders. That’s crazy, lol. Well, if Davies doesn’t start I’ll still have van Aanholt I guess. Though, I don’t like the idea of paying 5m for a non-starter.

      NIN says:

Raz – Nice squad. Are you happy enough to go without any Arsenal cover?

      • Raziel says:

People are always talking about having coverage from several teams. At the moment I have no City, Liverpool or Arsenal coverage. I consider those together with MU and Chelsea to be the premium teams. All I did is look at fixtures and Chelsea United have the kindest. Three from United is a must, just like 2 or 3 from Chelsea. Only current doubt I have if I should maybe replace Hazard with Sanchez. ANyway, changes can still be made after 1 or 2 GW’s. If things work out I might not even have to do transfers the first 2 GW’s.

From what I can see I can field 7 premium players the first few weeks (DDG, Luis, Mata, Hazard, Eriksen, Rooney and Costa). Pelle could do well after the first GW (still keeping my eye on Soton this preseason though). With the new set of rules players like Pieters, van Aanholt and Janmaat (or Davies Spurs) should do well. I think Siggy offers great value for your money, he could do really well this season.

Only players which are a doubt are Myhill, Albrighton and Wisdom. If things work out they’ll never have to play though. 😉

        • Raziel says:

Aaah yes, what I meant to say is. Geezzzzzzzzzz. My freaking point. You won’t need coverage from teams like Arsenal (unless they’re in crazy form, which can’t know yet) if you already have players with similar qualities playing for similar top teams. With Luiz and Lamps could Hazard get an even bigger role with free kicks/penalty kicks?

        • NIN says:

Raz – Fair point there, cant say i considered the loss of set piece takers for Chelsea. Hmm. Cesc can take them but will he take them ahead of Hazard? Doubtful. Good point mate. I did consider going without Ramsey but the fear of him kicking off again is just too much for me. I managed to catch him early last season when he was dirt cheap but he’d be the bane of my life if he came out firing and i didn’t have him.
