The Impact of the Takeover at Newcastle United

The Impact of the Takeover at Newcastle United Mike Ashley’s 14-year tenure as divisive owner of Newcastle United was ended on October 8th 2021 following the completion of the protracted takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Although there have been some reservations from a moralistic standpoint, the takeover was widely celebrated across Tyneside with a jubilant throng of Newcastle fans gathering outside St. James’ Park to share their joy with fellow supporters. How Will the Takeover Impact the Club and the Premier League? Manager Steve Bruce celebrated his 1000th game as a manager on October 17th, however, the affable Geordie has now been relieved of his duties. The former Crystal Palace and Birmingham boss had helped to steady the ship and although his preferred style ...[Read More]

5 of the most unlikely top performers in the 2021/22 FPL so far

5 of the most unlikely top performers in the 2021/22 FPL so far With almost a quarter of the 2021/22 EPL campaign underway, now is the ideal opportunity for FPL managers to take a step back and check out some of the surprise performers in the league thus far. Below, we explore five high-scoring FPL players that weren’t expected to start the 2021/22 season in such blistering form. Andros Townsend 30-year-old winger Andros Townsend left Crystal Palace after a five-year association with the Eagles. Few could have predicted the impact he’d make at his new club Everton, scoring three goals in seven appearances in Rafael Benitez’s new-look side. Everton and Townsend have the luxury of not being involved in European competition this season. This could end up being a blessing in disguise, particul...[Read More]

FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 8

FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 8 FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 8 We have a bumper Saturday for a change with no less than 7 games to digest. We imagine the majority will be hoping that (Captain) Salah doesn’t put an early dampner on their gameweek in his lunchtime visit to Watford. At 3pm we have a Villa v Wolves derby, Man U going to Leicester for a 4th place play-off, Man City’s bi-annual hammering of Burnley, Brighton hoping to see Norwich off to the Championship, with Saints and Leeds completing the set. Saturday night (ish) should then be fun as Brentford and Chelsea slug it out at 5.30pm. Sunday may be a bit short on games but they promise to be interesting ones if nothing else. The Moyes derby is at 2pm as Everton welcome West Ham. All eyes will then be on the richest club ...[Read More]

FF247 Site FPL Team GW8

FF247 Site FPL Team GW8 A damp squib Last week we lamented ‘only our second captaincy fail of the season’ and here we are again lamenting our third captaincy fail. We weren’t alone. With many going for Ronaldo and Lukaku (who scored 2pts and 4pts respectively) we went into Sunday feeling a little smug with our ‘differential’ Antonio (C), only to watch in dismay as he returned a paltry 4pts, thus rendering all our pre-deadline decision making a moot point. In a game-week where the average was a lowly 38pts, we limped over the line with 40pts and still ended up on a red arrow. Albeit a small one, with a rank drop of just over 50k (221,616 – 273, 191). In a week that saw many suffer worse, we’ll take it and soldier on. New signing Antonio Rüdiger lost his ‘guaranteed clean sheet’, and e...[Read More]

Predicted Line-ups and FPL Team News 2021/22 GW8

Predicted Line-ups and FPL Team News 2021/22 GW8 We did say from the get go that this article would most likely evolve over time and we are very pleased to say that it has taken big strides this week. What you now see below is a live link to what Drafthound have on their website. Why is that significant? Well, firstly, it now means that the second they make any updates in reaction to live team news then they will also appear on here. Being uber helpful in that respect they also time-stamp all of their line-ups so you can tell to the minute when it was last updated. Secondly it also means that we now have a much smarter looking interface. Previously we have simply been screen-shotting the team images and that can mean they look a bit inconsistent and sometimes blurry, at best. And they were...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 8

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 8 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 8 Last week was supposed to be all about which of Big Rom or Big Ron would beat up more on some beleaguered opponents. Antonio was a popular pick outside of that pair as he was supposed to be the star man in a high scoring affair with Brentford. Vardy was the outside pick if anyone felt a bit more daring. None of that quite worked out as expected, but ultimately football would be boring if things were always that simple. Last week’s ‘results’ table ended up as follows; 1. Matt – Vardy, 16 points. A goal and a couple of bonus points saw Matt and Jamie take top spot by a country mile. 2. Rosco – Big Rom & Big Ron, 6 points combined. Our sneaky Geordie thought heR...[Read More]

Defenders – (Smash) Manchester City have been the best defence in the league so far this season, conceding only 26 Shots in the Box (1st), 9 Shots on Target (1st) 5 big chances conceded (1st), 43 goal attempts conceded (1st) 15.5 mins per chance conceded (1st) and an xGC of 3.8 (1st). Joao Cancelo (6.2) is currently the highest scoring defen...[Read More]

Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2021-22

Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2021-22 International break means GABO time as always, so let’s get it! This panel is filled by 3 FF247 vets. Swirly of Quack Creative fame, who I expect to be more concerned with my use of commas and spelling than answering any of the fpl questions. He is joined by the boss, Init, who hates commas and thinks they are overrated. Speaking of hate, we also have the old grouch back, Kop, who I am sure will be his usual pleasant self when answering. Well, without further ado, let us see what the boys had to say. Thanks for reading Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!. This article was written by Mito21. Harry and Lloyd’s Fantasy Predictions GW8

Harry and Lloyd’s Fantasy Predictions GW8 Welcome to Harry and Lloyd’s Fantasy Predictions GW8. A low scoring week for most here in H&L comp as it was a rather tight week in the Premier League. Exactly half of the games ended with the spoils being shared with 5 drawn. United got pinned back by Everton whilst Burnley, Norwich, Arsenal and Brighton played out two boring 0-0’s with Liverpool and Man City giving us the best game of the season so far in a brilliant 2-2 draw. This week, unlike real life, there was no draw for the winner. Sherlock won fair and square out on their own with 14 points. Second place was however shared with Goldilocks and Irfan7cr both accumulating 11 points. Nobody correctly guessed the FGS this week as it came from the unlikely source of Antho...[Read More]

FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 7

FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 7 FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 7 The last GW before yet another International Break. This one begins on Saturday as Ronaldo Man United welcome Rafa back to Old Trafford for lunch. We then have four games at 3pm with Norwich taking the long trip up to Burnley, Chelsea looking to rediscover their mojo vs Saints, Leeds hosting Watford and Newcastle going down to Wolves. Arsenal’s new resolve will then be severely tested by Brighton in the late game. 2pm on Sunday then becomes the new 3pm of a Saturday with three games all at once: Palace welcome Vardy and co, Spurs and Villa play hide & seek with their Argentinian contingent and Brentford make the short trip to West Ham. Presumably they were all told to clear off early to make way for Sky’s inevit...[Read More]

FPL Team Gameweek 7

FPL Team Gameweek 7 Welcome to FPL Team Gameweek 7 Above average/below expectation So we have suffered only our second captaincy fail of the season with CR7 bringing us – and many – the miserable 4 points. Ugh. Probably explains why we just about snuck over the average line by three points when in most other weeks so far we’ve been miles ahead of the average. Proof, if it were ever needed, that captaincy is critical. We scored 46 points in Gameweek 6 to take us to 221,616 via the dreaded RED arrow. Not panicking yet but we have some questions requiring answering soon, if not very soon. Raphinha, Antonio and our new signing Saint-Maximin brought us (8) points a piece and Salah just behind on seven. The rest (including said captain) doesn’t merit the bashing of the ke...[Read More]
