Fantasy Football Diary – Pre-season and the big kick off A Year in Provence – not quite. A year in Monaco – nearer, but ultimately it won’t be. Will explain later. Instead welcome to the first instalment of my FPL diary as we journey through my thought process, or lack of it, and rollercoaster through the emotions of FPL life – the highs and the lows and the impact it has on everyday life….and vice versa! Pre-season The lead up to GW1. I can’t help myself, as soon as FPL was launched I began to tinker. Everyday. Until I just realised that I was changing my mind, everyday. I’ll be honest I had 3 ‘musts’ that I absolutely wanted and would have, unless injury intervened – these were Salah, Robertson and Mendy. I um’d and ah’d over the keeper position….DDG or Ederson? Two rotating 4.5s? ...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 3 Welcome to Captain Picks Gameweek 3! Well the past weekend was split between those that capped Aguero and those that did not, which one were you? Depending on what you did, you either had a great Sunday and weekend, or you were crying into your pint cursing that last-minute swap from the Argentine to a certain Egyptian. The top three choices for the armband were Salah, Aguero and Kane and none of them disappointed scoring 9, 20 and 7 points, respectively. Salah grabbed a couple of assists, Aguero grabbed his 9th PL hattrick and Kane did the impossible by scoring in August! Can they all perform again this weekend or will someone else be the top captain choice? This coming weekend sees some of the bigger teams play relatively weaker sides and gives u...[Read More]
Harry and Lloyd’s Predictions GW3 Welcome to Harry and Lloyd’s Predictions GW3. So the maiden Harry and Lloyd’s prediciton competition has ended and now H&L is a fully fledged staple on the FF247 site. The past weekend saw a lot of strange results and not many correct predicitons but we still had a clear winner and that was Offaly Martin with 16 points. Closely behind him was Lord Atlas on 15 points and Gear and Swirly tied for 3rd. Congrats to Offaly Marin so please email us at contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk to claim your prize! For those of you new to the competition, the premise is pretty straightforward; each week we’ll post the following weeks fixtures at the end of the article, cut and paste the fixtures and add your prediction at the end of each like so: Man...[Read More]
It was a disappointing start to the double gameweek (DGW) for some teams and, consequently, for some fantasy managers too. A few big names completely failed to deliver on the promise of the DGW (Zlatan 3pts, Valeri 4pts) and were easily outshone and outscored by SGW counterparts (J Martinez 10pts, Lodeiro 13pts). It wasn’t all DGW doom and gloom though. Anybody picking Rooney (19pts) or the LAFC backline (16-19pts) will have done well and any chancers picking the likes of RSL’s Rusnak or DCU’s Fisher (both on 16pts) will be feeling pretty pleased with themselves (and rightly so). Thankfully LAFC saved the day for most of us, with two wins (and two shutouts) to bump many managers well over the hundred point barrier in the end. Gameweek 25 Review It was a record-equalling week in MLS history...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 3 Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 3. GW2 FPL 2018/19 may now forever more be remembered as Jamie Jackson Week. There’s a fair to middling chance that prior to about 4.25pm on Friday many (most) of you will never have even heard of Jamie Jackson before. Yeah sure enough, he’s got a hallowed ‘blue tick’ on his twitter page and he’s a ‘journalist’ for The Guardian but we aren’t talking Henry Winter or Neil Custis levels of notoriety here. I’ll freely admit I didn’t have a scooby who he was either. I do now though! He’s just about the most hated person on twitter within FPL circles as we speak. Even Ben Crellin blushed. Bobby Madley’s publicist was perhaps th...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 2 None of that Friday night nonsense this week. Our game-week kicks off at lunchtime on Saturday with Cardiff hosting Newcastle, a game that has relegation 6 pointer written all over it. We then have four games at the traditional kick off time of 3pm. Everton entertain Southampton. It’s a battle of the animals at The King Power stadium as the Foxes host Wolves. It’s an all London affair with Spurs playing host to Fulham, while Bournemouth travel to West Ham. Saturday is brought to a conclusion with the game of the weekend when Chelsea host Arsenal at 5:30pm. Sunday brings us another three games. Burnley host Watford in a game that is unlikely to cure any hangovers. Huddersfield will be hoping to improve on their opening day result but that’s unlike...[Read More]
FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GW2 Well, well, well – 82 points scored in GW1 with 37 of those points coming from our 3 playing defenders. Robertson, Shaw and Mendy all performed heroically with bonus points flying all over the place! Richarlison’s brace was also most welcome while Salah chipped in with his customary goal. Firmino provided an assist but with Liverpool scoring four we may have expected more. The rest of our number were 2pt bums, while like many other managers, we left Wan-Bissaka’s 12 points on the bench. Overall we are delighted with the start, overall rank means nothing at this stage. Last Week’s Result What have we done this week? Like many of you we have decided to sit on our hands this week and roll our transfer over. To be honest this was always the plan and i...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 2 Hello everyone, it’s great to be back writing for another season – though, with this being the earliest in August I have written an article, it’s definitely been the hardest to write! So, looking back to Gameweek 1 and there is a bit of a correlation between the most owned players and points scored, in that hardly any of the favourites among the FPL competitors went on to score highly! De Gea, Pickford, Trippier, De Bruyne and Kane collectively managed five points between them. Look, then, at the highest points scorers and McCarthy is owned by just 1.4 per cent, Mendy has got 13.4 per cent of managers putting their trust in him and Wilson has just 5.3 per cent. So, don’t feel bad if your first week didn’t go to plan, a lot of other managers will have fared ...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 2 Two phrases I’ve learned and hated my entire adult life – ‘think outside the box’ and ‘introspect’. As though it mattered much, since my own life was involved in finance and statistics, where you actually look inside ‘boxes’ (and not those of the nice kind mind you) and introspecting gets you called a lackadaisical weirdo. We left that to the office shrink. But a new season of fantasy football is upon us. A lot of bets have been placed. Some (unjustifiable) ego and pride are at stake. Many of us are just a tad bit short of a suicidal Japanese-workaholic. And the only thing keeping us from tearing our hair out and sticking a pen in Slick Joe’s eye, as he lathers up yet another pretty new intern with his smooth words, hair, gestures and just the right touch o...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2 Here we are, already diving into Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2. Gameweek 1’s high flyers comprised the usual medley of routine regulars and ragtag randoms we’ve come to expect from the dawning weekend of an FPL season. Thousands took to the streets for Mo Salah’s 8 points; hundreds danced in the aisles to the tune of Jamie Vardy’s late Old Trafford cameo; while one hungover bloke from Swindon raised a refilled glass of mulled wine to his previous night’s drunken captain punt on Watford’s Roberto Pereyra. Disappointments for many included Harry Kane’s continued August allergy and Sergio Aguero’s unwillingness to find an unmarked Kevin De Bruyne with a square pass. In summary, GW1 belonged t...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 2 Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 2. And as quickly as that, it is all over. All the optimism pumped into you on these boards over the past few weeks has been shattered, all that boasting to your mates that they may as well just pay you the league winner’s money before the season starts has backfired, and all that time picking hidden ‘gems’ was wasted. Indeed, the only hidden gem we truly managed to find – Aaron Wan-Bissaka – was parked on our benches, sandwiched between reckless Enabler A and feckless Enabler B. I joke, of course. We are one week in. I will save you the patronising hare and tortoise, sprint and marathon rubbish in the hope that someone wildcards for the entertainment of the rest of the site. Gameweek 1 will ...[Read More]
While the English Premier League kicked off its new season, over the pond the Fall season continued in typical MLS style with unexpected results all over the shop. In the Cascadia Cup, Portland’s unbeaten run of 15 games was finally snapped by the visitors from Vancouver. Elsewhere, it was surprising to see Philadelphia make it 3 wins in their last 4 away games, considering they only had 1 win in their previous 8 road matches. In fantasy terms there were few big scorers, as the goals were shared around much more than we’ve seen recently. For example, across Saturday’s 8 games, 21 goals were scored by 20 different goal-scorers, with the only brace coming from the most unlikely source (a Philly defender, playing away, with only 0.67% ownership!). Further multiple goal-scorers did follow on S...[Read More]
