Fantasy Football Captain Picks

The Captain’s Picks article, which will be released every Wednesday, will endeavor to sort out one of the most challenging problems FPL managers face – namely pick the member of your side who will accrue the most points and earn huge double point tallies for your fantasy team. We will concentrate on the most obvious looking selections each particular game-week and have a look at some comparable stats to see who, on paper, the best options are.

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 25 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 25. GW24 was definitely a mixed bag for most people. I was very happy with how my team was going straight after the Christmas period getting green arrows and going into the top 60k but GW24 was like that feeling you get having to go back to work on a Monday or when you come home from the pub steaming only to be interrogated by the prison warden. Hopefully it wasn’t like this for everyone, especially those who were able to bring in a certain Argentinian who, let’s face it, scored possibly the easiest hattrick of his career! My other Chuckle Brother, Rosco tipped Sergio Aguero in last week’s Captain Picks even against his beloved Toon. (Even if he wants to sell his season ticket ?) Well look...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 24 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 24. To be honest; I couldn’t wait for GW22 to end. The Christmas fixtures started so well, green arrows in GW19 and 20, but quickly followed by two reds in 21 and 22 resulting in ending up pretty much back where I started. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it (honest) but usually the pain of a bad game-week is over in a matter of days. GW22 was like an episode of Downton Abbey, tedious, something I don’t want to watch and overly drawn-out. The FA Cup was a welcome break, which is saying something as prior to last week, Newcastle had failed to reach the fourth round since 2012! If all of the above sounds a little ‘woe is me’ it’s not meant to, but sometimes we all need a ...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 23 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 23. Back to a bit of normalcy after that miserable DGW and there’s nothing like the old miserable regular game-week to get us back in the spirits. This week I was tasked with coming up with some captaincy options for you all to mull over. I was also told to not pick them and then spend a whole paragraph on why they were actually bad options, like I apparently did last time. Basically they have asked me to hide the truth… I can do that, I don’t have a problem with doing that at all 😉 In fact, if you must know there are a few things I live by, which I think would serve most people well, but let me just mention the one that is most relevant to this article. “It’s...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21. I’m not sure why I’m bothering to write this gameweek’s Captain Picks article. There’s only one candidate who’s really worth considering. I won’t name him but his form’s just been insane. Saturday 23rd December: hat-trick. Tuesday 26th December: hat-trick. It’d likely be rather embarrassing for me to back against another one. He’s been transferred in by over 120,000 since. And rising. Still, if you’re one who follows actual fixtures over form, here are 5 alternative and vaguely available candidates for your team’s armband… Alvaro Morata vs Stoke (H) My captain. I wish anyway, if I actually owned him. Stoke have already conceded 41 goals and 3+ against each of the following: West ...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 20 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 20. Boxing Day footy is one of the great traditions of a British Christmas. Whether one dons their hat, gloves and scarf to attend the matches or settles down on the sofa to watch on tv, we are set for a football feast. And in FPL terms, this is a great time to make great strides on ones mini-league rivals who may easily miss a deadline or not keep up with press conference comments. There are of course other Boxing Day traditions and let’s look at some as we explore and analyse who is the best candidate for your all-important FPL armband in GW20. The Fox Hunt Richarlison – home vs Leicester Despised by many, yet still enjoyed by some the fox hunt is a tradition that dates back ...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 19 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 19. Well we have got to the midway point of the season with the last round of games before the fixtures all reverse. This season is flying by and so are the runaway leaders Man City who are flying away from the rest of the competition after going on a 16 game Premier League winning streak. Barring a complete meltdown from City I don’t see them doing a Spurs and throwing the title away (sorry, not sorry). The one thing that has made this season fly by so fast is the amount of footie on the telly and that is what makes this time of year so great. It has been mentioned on the site by many, and the actual managers themselves, that this time of year is very chaotic – with rotation and inj...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 18 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 18. Ok hands up, who’s up for a Premier league winter break? Anyone? No me either. Managers (Premier league ones that is) always seem more vocal around this time of year, bemoaning the hectic festive schedule; it’s like they didn’t bother to check their fixtures at the start of the season, or maybe they did and just figured they’d moan about it at a later date. Whilst it seems crazy to have so many fixtures crammed into such a short space of time, I for one would not have it any other way. Imagine if every Christmas, the Premier league closed down for business for three to four weeks over the festivities? No FPL for a whole month? (cold shudder) It doesn’t bare thinking about really. For t...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 17

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 17 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 17. Four writers. Four different Captain Picks. Four competitive beasts. This smacks of Four Ball time! The heat is on and the testosterone is high. Mito is sweating in the corner, hoping the drug testers don’t notice him. Cookie is primed, ready and waiting to go, and don’t worry he’s been briefed that a left-back is a no go here. Kop is googling the meaning of positive and Init is looking at the rest and simply shaking his head, as usual : We have a 4 ball on the go – one pick each, the best pick wins. Init: Harry Kane vs Brighton (H) You snooze, you lose. Yeah ok, I got the prime pick here. And if you go with one of the other guys you will be in the minority for ...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 16

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 16 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 16. GW15 saw explosive returns for an old Captain Tips favourite Philippe Coutinho. His goal and 3 assists playing an integral part in Liverpool’s demolition of Brighton. Not that he didn’t get any help though, Mo Salah chipped in with an assist of his own, and Roberto Firmino continued to bemuse non-owners with 2 goals in what has proved to be a frustratingly unpredictable campaign. Perhaps the biggest story of the past two gameweeks has been Jesse Lingard’s 3 goals and 3 assists, proving to be an unexpected bargain basement route into Man Utd and showing form worthy of captaincy. Well, steady on. For now. The most likely source of points, and a captaincy poster boy, did...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 1 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 15. With this being the second gameweek in only a few days we are getting our first glimpse into the hectic future that will befall us all over the forthcoming Christmas period. Footie on the telly pretty much every day, holidays from education or work coming up, life will be good, so long as Pep, Conte, Jose and co. don’t screw us over too much with their rotation and mind games that will no doubt start up very soon if it hasn’t already! In my last Captain Picks article I tipped Aaron Mooy and got some (a lot!!) of ribbing for it and since then the bald Aussie has done sweet F. all!!! This has turned me off picking a differential pick that I like to do because I don’t want to jinx any more...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 14

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 14 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 14. I’m rarely referred to as ‘a man of few words’. Indeed, some around these parts (Mito), have ribbed me mercilessly over my inability to keep my word count below Tolkien levels. Therefore, with time short and only 2 days between game-weeks 13 and 14, time, both yours and mine is precious. I shall endeavour to embrace brevity; no recounting my DIY mishaps, no shameless bragging of my latest ‘vacation’, no time for distractions. The first mid-week fixtures of the season will give us all a glimpse of things to come; three game-weeks, played over ten days. Normality briefly returns for GW15, then we’re officially into the festive fixtures, and it’s looking busier than ever this season. GW16...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 13

Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 13 2017/18 Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 13. Well, here we go, dear managers — 13 — the unlucky-for-some gameweek is looming. I suppose that’s true for any given game-week; fortunes varied widely in the FPL world last weekend. The shockwaves of both Salah and Hazard’s braces touched almost all of our teams, a phenomena now known as the Spacey effect, except managers who actually owned these players certainly weren’t complaining. The important question is: who will reveal themselves as the next big scorer? I think the following 5 candidates, given their delicate ball control and ability to score frequently, all have a good chance… Riyad Mahrez vs West Ham (A) Now, this isn’t quite 2015–16 and the dazzling peak of Mahrez’s ca...[Read More]
